iPhone 4 Bluetooth Connects then disconnects

Featured Replies

I've searched extensively on this subject without much joy - maybe you guys can help:

I have an iPhone4 (I bought it used as a stopgap after my contracted Android phone just became so unreliable as to be useless) which I'm stuck with until december. Its running iOS 7.1.2 which is the most up to date software a 4 will support.

The bluetooth connection with my Amundsen system works fine - it connects, imports contacts, streams audio via BBC Iplayer radio etc but almost as soon as it's not in use (ie not streaming or making a call) the connection drops out. It also doesn't connect without me telling the car to connect and me turning Bluetooth off and on again on the phone. Oddly, my previous car (BMW) did similar in the last couple of weeks before it was chopped in so I'm guessing it's the phone/software related.

Anyone else suffered this? Any solutions? Like I say, I've searched and most problems seem to be that it won't connect AT ALL - mine does, but just will not stay connected if it's 'idle'.

This is very odd - and even though the unit is on iOS 7, it should not be a factor (if anything, the last version of iOS 7 was extremely stable and debugged). The car should be perfectly happy connecting to it.

Are you sure there is nothing in the car either trying to connect to the iPhone via bluetooth (headset, headphones for example) or another device trying to connect to the car's Bluetooth module (a tablet or another phone)?

Also - have you been able to rule out a hardware fault with the actual bluetooth module in the car (connecting another phone to the car and driving for a period of time with it connected to see if the same thing happens)?

Good point Chris. I don't have any other devices but I will try and connect MrsPerArdua's phone (I haven't had need to you yet) to rule that out.

I haven't tried another phone yet, but I did connect my iphone4 to Mrs PerArdua's Fiat 500 'BlueAndMe' setup on friday when we swapped cars (so I could take the 500 for a service). Funnily enough, the same connection issue occurred so I think it's the phone.

And bizarrely, if the phone is plugged into a USB charger in the Rapid (via an adapter in the 12v socket) it stays connected throughout an entire 3 hour journey, which it has done twice now. Weird.

I'm due an upgrade in December. Trying to convince myself that I don't want an Iphone 6, I actually need an iphone 6...

What you actually need is an iPhone 6s Plus! :)

It's huge, but what a phone - and a great additional display to have in the car for nav, music etc.
