Skoda Fabia Petrol 1.2 auto gearbox problem

Featured Replies

I have a 13 reg Skoda Fabia 1.2 auto hatchback (with the 'new' automatic gearbox).  Recently (and it's gotten worse) it will sometimes refuse to change gear - the gear number indicator on the dash (D1, D2 etc) will flash and absolutely nothing will happen when trying to speed up (it'll change down but not up).  The only (temporary) solution is to put it in park for a minute and then back into Drive, at which point it'll be reasonably happy....for a while.  I nearly always put it in neutral when stuck at lights, but the problem is just getting worse.

Any ideas?  Is there a fix, beyond taking it back to a dealer (sadly, the dealer I bought it from is no more)?

Welcome to the Forum.

I take it being a 2013 it is a MK2 Fabia not a Mk1.

Is the 'New Gearbox' the one the car came with a DSG 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch.

(not a Gearbox already replaced.?)

a 2013 car is still Under the Skoda Manufacturers Warranty.

The DQ200 DSG Gearbox was subject to a Service Campaign to have Synthetic Oil Changed to Mineral

and a Software Update from May 2014, on cars that required that doing.

(there have been Mechatronic Control Unit failures, and Clutch Packs.)

Call Skoda UK Customer Services, raise a case, Get a handler, and have Skoda get your car repaired.

Under Warranty.

The Manufacturers Warranty is with Skoda not with Skoda Dealerships.

this is the New Zealand Service Campaign.

There was a 'World Wide' Recall which did not include the UK/EU.

But they still did a sort of Service Campaign.

Check your car for outstanding work anyway.

back to a dealer... sounds like a mechatronics failure to me... unlucky, they are usually quite reliable.

Unlikely to help in your case...but...I had similar symptoms in a BMW and it turned out that the electronics was designed to limit certain auto box gear changes when the car thought it was going around a corner, as judged from the speed indications from the abs sensors on either side of the car. This perception of cornering can also be caused erroneously by having tyres with significantly different wear levels and thus circumference. Car thought it was always going around a corner until I sorted the tyres.
