Service costs

Featured Replies

Afternoon all :)

My motor, 2011 Octy RS diesel is in need of a service (minor) at the same time I'm looking to have the gearbox oil changed and the cost is coming in at 314 Euro at a main dealer, E129 for the service and E185 for gearbox oil...question is ....is that a good price? Or should I be looking for a indy to do the job? Only problem there is that I don't know a good one here in Dublin. I've looked on VAG drivers but that forum is like a ghost town!!

cheers

I found an indy that charged 1.5 hrs to do an oil change, gearbox oil and rear discs and pads. Total Labour was £85

I supplied the parts myself. I bought the gearbox oil from here:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151755284000?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT, for a manual box. Needed 3 litres @ £33

I assume you must have a dsg for the cost to be e185?

You could ask them if you can supply your own parts? My local dealer do,  but their labour rates are £100 per hr, hence why I went to someone else where labour is £60 per hour

i now get my oil changed every 6 months at a cost of £30 plus parts

Its a manual box...prob for me is that i'm useless at that sort of stuff and don't know and good indy's!

E185 for a gearbox oil change is taking the pi

Maybe now is a good time to get to get useful with this sort of stuff - google is your friend- and save some euro's

That price for the gearbox oil change is ridiculous........i changed my own,the oil cost me approx £50 from my local dealer & took me 30 mins to do the job.

How often should the gearbox oil be changed? Is it a listed service schedule item?

Its not a service item & i dont think there is a specified change interval like the DSG box oil,i changed mine at 50,000 miles & the oil was around 5 years old & the oil that came out was black, the new stuff is a nice gold colour,my gear changes improved alot with the new oil in,1st to 2nd was lots better. Its well worth doing in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply. Might look into this myself then approaching 6 years and 60k.

Another vote for the gearbox oil here, my dealer charged me £80 to do it on my manual Octavia two or three years ago.

The first dealer refused to quote for the job as it was 'life long' oil and shouldn't be replaced. Needless to say I said thanks and found a better dealer.

The gearbox is as smooth as silk now.

Paid 70quid for mine to be done recently. I reckon it had never been done in seven years and 120k miles and it made a noticeable improvement in my gear changes too, especially lower down.

Been using TMC just outside canterbury, in Hersden. A bit of a ballache to get to but the guys know their stuff, and I have been using them ever since my wife had her first SEAT ibiza in 2007.

My son also uses them now for his Ibiza which he has just acquired.
