05 vRS Misfire (possible injection wiring loom?)

Featured Replies

Hi all, sorry to drag up this age old topic again, and sorry if there's a thread running about this well known issue already, but I couldn't find one.

Basically I'm just after a bit of confirmation that I need a new fuel injection wiring loom on the car.

I've had the injector loom problem before back when I bought my car in July 2011, I bought  a used part to put on it, and since then I've done about 45k in the car (currently on 132k)

I noticed the car 'coughing' once or twice about a month ago, and thought nothing of it as it soon cleared up quickly, and only happened on the motorway when cruising. So yesterday I was in Jersey, and it did again and was a lot longer than usual, and was certainly noticeable as an engine issue.

When on my way home from Poole last night after getting off the ferry, the car started juddering really badly once it had got up to normal running temp and the ASR light came on, and when stopped on idle it was still juddery. But after turning the car off and back on again, it had cleared, so I carried on my journey and drive very steadily the 80 odd miles home, I did have to stop again for the issue and again it cleared up. Just wondering if this sounds like the injector issue to you guys out there, as it feels very similar to what happened to me in 2011.

Would help to know a little about the engine...petrol, diesel, turbo whatever.

It's a bog standard 2005 vRS

This is exactly what happened to me. The stop and clear worked once or twice.

Did you get a light on the dash?

It was the injection loom for me. I created a thread which describes my experience.

Pretty easy fix, rocker cover off and battery box out to replace it. Can get part from either skoda or darkside.

For the sake of a £15 part, I would change the fuel filter first, before looking at the loom. JMTPW

Thanks for that, just read your thread and it sounds exactly the same problem as mine. Hopefully be able to get it sorted next week.

I'd offer some assistance if you are close?

one thing you night need is a small 10mm socket and a universal joint to use it, there is a bolt on the rocker cover which you can remove with these, otherwise you are looking at taking the EGR off as well.

Basically its,

1 - remove battery and battery box

2 - remove 90degree and plastic boost pipes

3 - remove rocker cover

4 - unclip injector loom from injectors and slide out to the slide.(there is a circular holder things on the outside of the head(prob not the right word) holding the loom to the injector.

I've also heard people say put the new injector loom on a radiator overnight before you fit it to warm it up, as there is a risk that the plastic body might snap if it is cold as you move it into place, i did this, didn't feel it was really needed as think this comes from fitting on another car with restricted access to the head (again prob wrong word) but better to be safe than sorry.

I'm in Weston super Mare, so a fair trek from Sheffield.

I'm having it fitted in my local garage that I use anyway, as I want them to give the front left corner a good look after a clouted a huge rock in Jersey last week.
