Whole Car Shake

Featured Replies

Hi all,

fun trip to Stafford today from Sheffield, after about half an hour the whole car began to shake when trying to accelerate from about 60 mph(1.5k revs), it cleared as I got quicker, but when stationary the whole car was shaking, I also had bugger all power ( as if the turbo wasn't kicking in)

I was convinced this was an injector by this point, although I have had previous issues with the crank sensor but never to this extent. Anyway, I also checked the oil , which was low/not even registering (although no warning light).

now, I turned the engine off (I checked the oil after turning off the engine), and back on again, and everything seemed fine, drove very carefully to Halfords and bought some oil, car acting normal throughout. topped up oil and the car is running as normal.

does anyone have ideas as to the cause and how I can test them?

no lights or anything on the dash at any point.

additional info -

I was previous told I had an oil leak but this appeared to be coming from the EGR as someone has put a huge screw to hold the pipe to the egr and the mechanic didn't know this. but obviously now thinking there may be a greater oil  issue.

the problem I have is that I can't remove the EGR, as I cant get the boost pipes out of the EGR (sealed in by previous owner), I have a replacement EGR waiting but cant really afford to replace the boost pipes this close to xmas. which is what I will need to do as ill will probably destroy the boost pipe from the egr when I come to removed it (tried before).

sorry for the bad spelling/grammar, I'm rushing as on work dinner (not lunch)

cant gvie and explanation but i got the boost hose from the EGR to plastic pipe for under 40 quid from TPS. Iv had to cable tie it as even the new pipe under pressure was coming away from the EGR about 4cm.

Yeh, did you post that somewhere else? All my pipes are shot so the plan is to DIY/ upgrade them all at once.

Yes bud somewhere lol. Yea Im in the same boat, But think it was £38 with trade discount which was only about 4% lol.

Also i was chatting to another member who made up there own bit of piping from the egr to top inter-cooler hose for about £80

half way down that thread bud, there's links and pictures to what he done.

My car shudders and vibrates when I hit boost for about 1-2 seconds before disappearing and pulls strong and a wooshing sound, Aint got a clue what it is tho. Im hoping its a boost leak or something. Rather than the DMF going like a few people said. Someone mentioned they had a issue like this with the vacuume control box naffed causing over boosting.

Hope it helps mate.

EDIT--haha just seen you was on that post. Som poss already seen :P

haha no worries, yes, I've been researching it for a loooong while now....

think I've figured out everything I need to replace the lot, i.e from egr to turbo, costed about 160 I think, might be able to pull it in for a bit less though...

Haha I can post the list of things I've figured are needed, but its untested so I would accept no responsibility if it was wrong. Lol.

Anyway, back to the issue-

The issue came back again after a while of driving.

But pulled over switched on/off and the issue remains, but now we have a dash light!

Will try an get it scanned tomoz.

ha sorry;

part No. 038917600 original cost of £67.21 but £58.20 on bickertons site, skodaparts, plus £6.50 delivery

you can get it for £55 from darkside plus £4 delivery.

I can collect from Bickertons so I will probably head down that route

Ah sweet mate was gonna point out Darkside have them. For a extra few quid might aswell get it on the day buddy and get the Badboy running like a nut :D

Im gonna leave it all till after Xmas for me. Then the boost hoses are on the cards! And hopefully a similar set up for the bottom Hoses too!

Hope this loom sorts it for ya buddy.

Cheers, let us know how you get on with the hoses, as I can pretty much guarentee you'll have yours long before mine.

Have you looked into a catch can, will.be a shame to sully new hoses with the oily crank case air.

Right, loom purchased and its seems all is sorted. Thanks all!

Replaced it yesterday, you need a 10mm and 13 mm socket, the battery and air box have to come out to get the new loom in. The only issue I had is that there is a rocker cover bolt at the back under the EGR, you can get this out with the EGR in place but you need a small (1/4" I think) flexible socket. If your bolts are not seized, it is probably easier to just remove your EGR though, as you still have to twist the cover to get it past the egr anyway.

if it helps with anyone future diagnosis, the car would run fine for the first 5 or so minutes, until the temp started to creep up, then the mis-fire would start, but obviously I cannot comment if this would happen with an injector failure.
