mot checker information

Featured Replies

looking at a used car for sale privately the mot website has this information, the car is only 5yrs old but has done just less than 77kmiles, do you thing this is more than should be expected of a car this old.

august 2013, Passed 58,236miles

advisories- all tyres close to legal limit

offside front coil spring corroded

August 2014, Failed 76,288 due to offside front coil spring broken

Then passed 2 days later

October  2015 Failed  76,643

reasons-

window screen washer provided insufficient washer liquid

exhaust emissions. Lambada reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limit

offside front tyre depth below requirement

offside front headlamp aim to high

near side front headlamp aim to low and too far right

Advisory- near front tyre close to limit.

passed mot 2 days later.

Told car aint be used much and is due a service, as have bigger car

Only 20k a year for the first 3 years. So not that huge really.

Regular decent length runs are much better for an engine than short runs where the engine doesnt fully get up to temp.

Id rather buy a car thats done 20k a year with decent trips, than 5k a year just nipping to the supermarket.

Doesnt sound like the owners been keeping ontop of it themselves too well though?

I think the owners being busy as husband self employed and they have a disabled child,

I thought it was only diesels that's needed longer trips to get up to temp

Diesels more so.

But its good for every engine.

Most of the engine wear is done when an engine is cold. So higher mileage cars often dont look good on paper.. But a well serviced high miler thats been up n down the country is better than a 5k a year constant cold starter, never gets up to temp shopping car imo.

You seem to be quite unsure about this car though? Would you ever be happy with it if you did buy it?

Theres soo many fabias for sale, why not go see another, and another after that until you find one youre happy with?

I would be more worried why in approx 400 miles in a year it managed to wear its tyres out etc?

Aug 2014 - 76,288

Oct 2015 - 76,643

That is only 355 miles!

Because they hadnt been changed?

Hence me thinking the owner isnt too fussed and isnt on the ball with it all.

Doesn't look like it's been cared for.

August 2013. O/S/R coil spring corroded

August 2024. O/S/R coil spring broken

Looks like any fault etc has been left and not cared for.

Have a look at the tyres. Cheap mis-matched brands are also a give away that it's been run on a budget.

looked at a few cars adverts sounded great then when took a look, they must of been on about wrong car.

im unsure as not mechanically minded, I hate dealers with a passions, just thought I get advice from you guys.

been checking forum if any members cars forsale, but no fabias, well just vrs, which im sure daughter love but insurance costs I wouldn't love

Ah okay.

Not too many white fabias.

Wouldnt she prefer a nice looked after car but maybe not in white?

No problem with you asking here at all. Thats what we're all here for it (:

it has to be white, I talked her into getting a fabia, but white is important as having 4 wheels.

wrong way to buy a car, but cant tell her,

She would buy anything now, getting desperate, honestly cant see attraction of white cars, but they seem in demand

Is this the one on Autotrader at £3345? I must say it does look clean.

Just done a search and it was top of the list

I think so, top of list was that not because cheapest lol

Well youve 3 options then if you cant find a white fabia youre happy with.

1. You buy a car you arent really happy with mechanically (wouldnt of thought that would be an option)

2, Its not white (not an option you say..)

3. Look at other manufacturers and models.

Not really much more to it as far as i can see.

im off to see it anyway just thought I run it past you guys,

my life wont be worth living, im fed up looking for a white one, she nearly went for a new one on pcp, but I don't think that wise being her first car.

it may turn out to be ok may just need a bit of tlc

other models aren't a option, its a skoda fabia, nothing more nothing less, not to bad insurance group either.

She did say I could buy an alternative colour, but have to be wrapped.
