Front suspension soft/bottoming out? any fixes?

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Octavia Estate 1.8 20V SLXi 1999.

This is our third Mk1 Octavia.

The first/previous car an 1998 Octavia1.6 GLXi Hatch bottomed out just going on our drive or in everyday kerbs, and had excessive front suspension travel, resulting in scraped sump, and removal of damaged undertray, and many scrapes on the front lower spoiler.

I am hoping to get a year or two out of my current Estate car as its covered under 40,000 miles from new.

However it has already scraped the front spoiler on a low kerb in a standard car park space at a car dealer.

The undertray scrapes every time I go on our drive.

Any Octavia we take to Ireland gets scraped underneath on rough roads/tracks.

Is there a recommended fix i.e. for higher ride height or less suspension travel?

I do not load up the estate bit most of the time, but I am sure that stiffer springs would help there as you can hear the rear suspension coming to the end of its travel on undulations.

Has anyone made changes to successfully overcome this?

Please let me know

Thanks

It does prove what I've said for nearly a decade now; the Octy is not a high riding car, but one styled with large wheel arch gaps.
