110bhp Diesel Service

Featured Replies

Hello all!

I'm going to be servicing my Mk1 in the coming week or so at around the 130000 mile mark. I'm planning on replacing the oil, oil filter, air filter, and brake fluid. I've already replaced the cambelt with a friend a month or so ago.

Is there anything that I should know, or watch out for, whilst I'm doing this?

Thanks!

I would replace the pollen filter, fuel filter and sump plug too, as your doing the rest of it. Make sure you fill the filter with diesel before fitting though as it makes it easier to start after.

And set the fuel timing up with VCDS rather than relying on counting teeth on the cambelts.

fuel filter every 10K or so is a good idea

I change all filters on mine every 12 months regardless, as I don't do the mileage.

Already had the fuel timing done by the garage when they replaced the head gasket problem I had a couple of months ago, thankfully.

In which case they should have replaced the cambelt etc as a matter of course at that time.

I know the cambelt is fresh because I ripped my fingers to shreds in the engine bay doing it myself lol. My friend and I replaced the cambelt as part of the waterpump change we did a couple of weeks before the garage had it.

You may already know but an oil filter cup tool (76mm with 14 flutes) will be necessary to remove the oil filter. Caught me out. Mine was not hand unscrewable. A strap wrench would probably do also. Good luck.
