I've just realised that my wheels are 16" spiders not 17's like they should be. The PO had bought an estate so I think he swapped the wheels!

 

Thinking back to the journey home when I bought it, the Sat nav & speedo consistently showed about 5 mph difference. Is that about right for the change in wheels size?

 

As finances are tight I can't afford to change to 17's yet but I do need new tyres. What size tyres should I put on the 16's to make sure the speedo etc is correct. What width & aspect ratio?

Early vRS estates came with 16" wheels as standard.

Yep, 205/55/16.

I thought it was only the estates that had 16's my vRS hatch had 17" spiders with 205x50x17 tyres.

Mine got swapped by the PO to his estate vrs I think.

From 51 plate onward spiders were 17", early, ie Y plater had 16". Think it was a little time later that the estate vRS arrived on the UK market and had 16s. Was this to do with with max tyre loading been more for the 16" rims on the assumption this model would carry more weight and towing?

Yeah mine is an 04 which should have 17's but they have been swapped out by the PO for 16's.
