Door handle(inside+ out) issues

Featured Replies

Ok so window mechanism bust, and after sorting it, the dam handle works sometimes and not others... its doing my head in, and i cant figure out why..

The handle pulley is fixed into the handle fine, but as this also happens from the outside im guessing it must be something else.

Any ideas what to check?

Is the plastic clip on the end of the outer part of the cable attached to the door card?

Yep ive checked that twice, its pulled right to the end tho, is that right/ normal?

But like i said, it works sometimes, its intermittent .. and always catches me out at the worst moments, then ive got to get out though the passenger side .. most undignified lol

Does the motor sound normal when you unlock the car?

Does it happen when you first unlock the car?  Do you have auto locking enabled?

Locks are all working fine, im lead to believe its the door handle mechanism, but unsure how to replace, problem find, etc

Hmm found this from google,

There is a cable that goes from the handle to the lock mechanism, if this cable is fitted back too tight then the first time the handle is pulled it moves the lock mech too far and past it's opening point.

If you pull the handle, look at the back, the bit that is covered by the lock barrel in the normal position. If you can see a small black plastic clip in the back of the handle it is too tight, it should sit level with the lock barrel when fully open.

If it is too high, then simply pop it out and let it slide back a little before pushing it back in. It is on small splines.

If you open the door, you can see the two bolts holding the lock on and the above that should be a plastic cover, under that is a small torx bolt (T10?).  Pull the outside handle out and undo the bolt (you don't need to completely undo it), the handle will go slack and then you can pull the keyhole bit out and see the plastic clip.

You can always take the lock blank out of the passenger door to compare the position of the clip.

Even without removing the keyhole you should just be able to see the plastic clip.

You said it was intermittant.  Even if you can't open the door you may be able to release the clip if you pull the handle all the way out then use a small screwdriver to lever out the black clip and try and push it into the door.  If you can get it to disconnect then the door should open from the inside.

Failing that you need to get the door car off with the door shut.  I did this the other week on our Leon when the locked jammed when deadlocked.
