Monte Bonnet alignment, thoughts and opinions

Featured Replies

So as some will know I bought my Monte on the 13th and there have been a couple of tiny niggles that are being sorted, now, a couple of days ago I washed the car as I had the drive space and I found that the bonnet was touching the headlights and hanging too far over the front. So I took it back to the dealers and he had a look round it and ran his pen along the back edge, said that the gap was the same at the back and that the front wasn't touching the lights, there was a small gap and that it was "Within tolerances" I didn't accept this freely but in the end kind of left it for a bit and went for a second opinion at VASSTech where the guy said that it definitely wasn't just me, they we had a bit of a chat about the car and I showed him under the bonnet at which point he spotted that the paint had started to wear out on the edge. And I said I wasn't settling for what the dealer said earlier and was going to take it back when I went in for my bits. He said if they get arsey then he'll see if he can adjust it. From what I can tell the bonnet needs to be unbolted from the brackets where I show the key in the photos below, moved back by a bit and then re-tightened and the height adjusters on the front altered to suit. Am I missing something here?

BTW HPI checks come up clear so I think it's just been like that from new. And if so I'm amazed that someone's owned it for 2 and a half years and not noticed.

Passenger side headlight showing bonnet touching:

And the same on the drivers side:

I assume these little rings are meant to be "targets" for the adjusters to sit on, but you can see by the markings that they are hitting too far forwards, more so on the passenger side which is the furthest forwards on the front.

Picture of the bonnet catch showing wear right at the back of the catch which seams to suggest that it is too far forwards:

And the 2 best pictures I could get to show the paint worn off the drivers side of the bonnet, the same has happened on the passenger side to but the pictures were no good:

Drivers side where the bonnet is bolted to the bracket, note it is just under a keys width from the front of the bracket:

IMG_0020_zps7vwjtore.jpg

And a hole on the bracket not aligned with the hole on the bonnet:

IMG_0021_zpslhwegari.jpg

Same thing on the drivers side of the car but this time the bonnet is just over a keys width from the front of the bracket:

IMG_0023_zpsgkdjji8i.jpg

And the same hole but on the passenger side still not aligned but definitely better than the other side:

I have since raised the front of the bonnet so it isn't touching the lights  but obviously that doesn't really solve the issue.

Something is not quite right about your bonnet ? Looks like the bonnet is twisted?

Or like you say the bonnet isnt sitting on the main frame so throwing everything out

This is the correct alignment on a new replacement bonnet,  which has 2 bolts on both new hinges after a front end prang.

The hinges usually distort.

(your front slam panel looks like it has been off.  are those the original Bolts?

Thanks for the replies, good point about the bolts, I don'd know if it has been taken off although as mentioned a HPI check says it hasn't been involved in an accident, but of course that isn't the be all and end all. All the other panels look correct though, the wing to the door, the light to the wing and the bumper to the wing and the light ect are all correct so I don't think the front end is out of alignment.

A HPI check need not show the car has been in an accident.

The one i posted would not,

would your last car come up as being in one?

If it is near aligned then just adjust it a bit more.

Lots of people remove bonnets to work on the engine, and especially to remove an engine.

Has your new car had Warranty Work done on it,  have you checked?

Have you got any straight on pictures with the bonnet shut and also a shot across the back of the bonnet when shut?

My last car would not, no, that wasn't reported to the insurance and all done privately, which, to be fair is a good point because that had a new slam panel. But at the same time all the bits lined up. I'll have a closer look at those bolts when I get chance and see if anything else looks to have been touched a the front end.

I didn't check for warranty work at the time as I got to the dealers late and everything was in a bit of a rush, the car was solid and drove/looked perfect and that seamed to be enough at the time.

I have these pictures from the front but I don't have any from the back, I'll have to get some when it's light again:

Looks good, bonnet maybe needs back 1 mm & a bitty.

Loosen bolts on hinge a little give it a gentle tap with palm of your hand.

2 E-mails sent to Skoda customer services, couldn't fit everything in 1 E-mail. I'll see what their response is. I've told them that the only way I see out of this is that the bonnet gets taken off, re-sprayed and put back on properly as otherwise it will only rust.

I have a couple of photos for you showing the panel alignment:

Although the last photo looks aligned properly there is room to move it back a bit and I'm sure it's further back on my dads but he's out at the minute or I'd have a look.

But anyway, I'll see what the response is from Skoda.

?

What has it to do with Skoda UK, is it not a Used Car bought at a Dealership,

and their responsibility to put right.?

It appears that it is a poorly repaired vehicle that any vehicle checks should have picked up on if it is an

'Approved Used Car'.

How old is it, and how many previous keepers?

The responsibility of Skoda because it doesn't appear to be a poorly repaired vehicle. All the other things line up and the bolts holding the bonnet on haven't been off since it left the factory the paint is not cracked between the bolts and the brackets, The car has only had 1 owner from new and yes, it was bought from a Skoda franchise dealer who when shown the car refused to do anything or even see if they could, so SUK can kick them into action. I'm fed up of trailing back and forth to the dealership to get things sorted out and being fobbed off and am actually starting to get annoyed at this stage. The problem was not shown to be when I bought the car and I bought the car thinking it was perfect as they suggested, it wasn't as such and now I think it's their responsibility to make it so. Is it my problem that I want what I payed for? I understand that it is the dealership that should do the work needed to put it right but when I go in and ask them to they tell me there is nothing wrong. I have to go higher and I have to do it now. Otherwise they can have the car back. Not playing around.

So you are saying it passed Quality Control at the Factory,

the PDI before delivery and the length of ownership.

& then the inspection given when traded in and before resale.

So how old is the car, with how many miles covered from new.

?

Is that the Standard Factory Bolts on the front slam panel?

............

re post #9.

Maybe just an optical illusion, reflection and the picture. (& my poor eye sight.)

But the top picture looks like it might have had repair work and been repainted,

but you will see that best in the flesh.

The car is on a 62 plate and had 16,500 miles when I bought it. It is possible that the problem wasn't seen for all that time, after all my old Fabia had a leaky drivers door that needed adjustment to fix, don't know how nobody noticed that either.

They are the standard bolts, I have these pictures for you:

Drivers side of my car:

Drivers side of my dads car:

Same shape, same numbers and letters on the top ect.

OK.  Cheers.

& do your hinges have 2 bolts at each side, on the bonnet ?

Yes, 2 bolts each side:

Like that on both sides of the car and the paint is not cracked, so the bolts haven't been taken off since the car left the factory.
