Minor damage insurance cover (not sure what it's called!)

Featured Replies

As a person frustrated by little scratches and minor dents that appear on cars (usually due to careless drivers in car parks) I'm pondering shelling out for the minor damage insurance that Skoda offer.

Apparently it's £399 and covers you for up to £3000 worth of repairs (unsure of the duration but recall it lasts for 3 years), there are limits on the size of dents that they will repair apparently but I think it might be a good thing to have.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of cover? If so would you recommend it?

Thanks in advance!

I didn't bother on mine. They just add so many variables to cover you that by the time you've shelled out for the lot it's no longer worth it. Do you really think you would incur £3000 of repairs?? I mean if it's severe there's not a great deal you can use the cover for anyway. If it's small, let them collect if you're prone to this and pay for a single fix in one hit.

As you've ordered metal grey I guess it may cost you more. I have white so it's quite a cheap colour to source for the repair guy.

But yea, I didn't bother!

Goes without saying that I don't expect to rack up £3000 in repairs!

I just thought it'd be nice to know that any scratches and dings would be covered, keeping the car in tip top condition. I dare say a couple of hours labour fixing even small things would far exceed the £399 premium so it would probably pay for itself quickly...

....but what if you never needed it, there's £400 down the drain. I would work out what you may have paid out in the past on small dings and scratches and compare it against the cost of this plan, it sounds a bit excessive to me, just another thing that the dealer can sting you for like GAP insurance and Superbrite/Autoglym protection.

That is the crunch I guess!

If only it were like Richer Sounds extra cover. If you don't use it you can claim it back!

My dealer tried unsuccessfully to sell me the same thing - with paint protection, GAP insurance and probably more. I recall that it was similar if not the same as the cosmetic warranty insurance in the link below. Looking at all the conditions and exclusions gave me a headache so I spent 28p at Tesco on a box of aspirin and banked the £398.72 I didn't waste on that insurance.

So they exclude damage to the roof, bumpers, doors, windows, lights, and any cosmetic accessories

That leaves... the fuel cap?

;)
