1.9 sdi even less power than usual

Featured Replies

Hi,

My good lady is reporting low power in her year 2000 sdi (90,000 miles on the clock). Apparently it won't go above 45mph, though she's not said if this is in any gear.

I'll have a look when I get home, and hook it up to vagcom if necessary, but does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

I'm thinking MAF, but that's purely based on experience of other marques. Edit: That's assuming it has a MAF :S EGR valve?

Cheers,
Iain

Report from said good lady:

It's just slow to accelerate in the higher gears, and fifth got nuthin going on at all. Taketh ten mins to get from 40 to 45 and can't get higher except going downhill. Pedal is on floor permanently while going over 40 mph.

Easy way to prove if it's the MAF is to simply disconnect it and go for a drive.

Also make sure that there is nothing blocking the air intake or something as daft as that.

Yep, that's what I was planning to do :-)

Haha I did say to check for something daft :)

My car mat often wanders under the accelerator pedal... It makes quite a considerable difference when you're trying to accelerate when you have no acceleration to start off with...
