VW red letters

Featured Replies

My Octavia is a TDI --all letters black

I saw a Fabia the other day 1.9 with red DI

Sorry if this is already covered somewhere but could some kind person explain the differences in red and black letters in VW badges.

Thanks

I think the real answer is that there's no hard and fast rules  My understanding is that all red denotes the top of the range, and then you lose red letters as you go down the range....

Chris

Yep - rule was (on the Golf Mk 4 anyway) Red I was 110 and then later the 115bhp diesel version. Red DI was the 130bhp version. And all red was the 150bhp (very rare IMO). Although the VeeDub factory did seem to get very confused from time to time, as I saw many Golfs badged as GT TDIs when they were no different to a normal Golf 115/130/150

Anyway, if you want the badges, have a look on eBay or give a VW garage a ring.

The Golf GT TDI was an actual model they made rather than a engine type from what I recall. I belive it was available in both 130 and 150 BHP modes but didnt advertise it. It was also overpriced and 'Booked' in Glasses Guide at stupid money that VW dealers wouldn't touch (Found that out when I was a trader) but overall the above answer generally covers the V'dub range - No red=90bhp, red I=110/115, red DI=130 and red TDI=150 or lad handy with a plaster knife in a dark pub car park:rofl:

My 04 Octy Ambiente 140bhp Diesel only has the I in red!

Yes, but my point was that at one point the factory were badging the normal TDIs as 'GT TDIs' when they in fact weren't! I think you got slightly better seats in the GT TDI? I also had a Mk4 demo from a VW garage that was a 130, but had all red lettering, and had apparently arrived on the transporter like that

Octy2 1.9 105 should have no red in the TDI - lowest power engine

2.0 TDI is 140 bhp and has a red I

Presumably the vRS will have a red DI

what sort of beast with have all red letters!:D

Mine has TDI on each wing, but then I stuck them there. :D I had a 1.9 TDI badge on originally and it was a PD100 TDI, so not sure if this helps at all?
