vRS loss of power on acceleration

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a 2002 mk1 vRS. Recently during acceleration the car will randomly cut power and try to launch me through the windscreen, I have to release the throttle and re-apply, simply adding more pressure to the pedal doesn't do anything.

I've changed the MAF (proper Bosch one) to no avail.

I've ordered a throttle body gasket and intend to give that a clean when it turns up.

There are no fault codes on the car.

Any ideas what else it could be?

Thanks in advance.

Is it only happening on heavy acceleration?

I took it on the motorway and no issues at all, it seems to happen at 20-40mph or when pulling off

Could it be the ASR kicking in and cutting power? If it is you should get the light flashing on the dash when it happens, but no faults stored.

I think the ASR works off the ABS sensors so it could be a faulty sensor or grime build up on the ABS rings.

Dodgy brake pedal switch? That can do weird things.

Thats what I reckon.

Well, 2 days after the new MAF the problem has mysteriously gone away, I still plan to clean the throttle bodies though.
