Hello, thinking of buying a octavia

Featured Replies

hello, my names richard, my current cars up for sale and im considering a octavia to replace it, i must admit its the engine that interests me im after the 1.9 tdi can anyone tell me about the engines and the various models eg: GLX and SLX and what i should be aiming for based on your experiances?

ive received some emails about the possible tunning potential of these engines yet still maintaining the MPG

has anyone ever made a standard octavia look like a RS octavia ? im assuming all the bits would go on from one, i know im getting it for the mpg but no harm in takinga bit of pride in what it looks like eh ;)

cheers for any help offered

richard

Well Good Choice really :)

It depends on how old a model you are looking for, the 1.9 tdi comes in all 4 levels of trim ( Incl L&K) , so it very mich depends on what Spec, & how much you want to pay?

The opportunity for a look alike vRS is there, Shopping trolley handle on the boot :) Alloys, badging.

As for remap, you will most likely best get from 90BHP - approx 120BHP, & the 110BHP to around 140 bhp.

Hope this helps

Welcome Richard.

Are you thinking of the Mk1 or Mk2 Octy?

Welcome to Briskoda. :D

well its probably not going to be the best one as when i sell my car ill only get bout 3500 for it and have only got bout 1k in the bank sooo i was thinking of spending around the 3 - 4 k mark for one probably around the r reg - t reg range, and probably with a few miles on it to get it in to that price range... but im not shy of some work, me last car had everything but the leather which i went and got a perfect leather interior from a scrapys soo.. i dont mind it missing a few interior bits or somethings wrong as long as the price is right and id also preferably like it to have air con / climate control which i have noticed on some GLX models ?? i thought it only came with the SLX models

can any one tell me about the engines ? ive already emailed jabba sport they was very kind in sending me back info on the upgrades and potentially attanable out put from the various engines.. what im curious about though is what exactly is the difference between each engine eg: 1 tdi is 90 and another is 100 then it seems to jump to a different block yet still 1.9 tdi but now 110 115 130 150. Id like to know if the difference between a 90 and a 130 is bolt on goodies like ecu intercoller etc or a fundamentally different block or internals

Welcome Richard

Yup you can but vRS bits on it, nothing wrong in look alike cars... take mine.... going for the Fabia vRS look on my mid range furby

Richard, I don't know much about the Octy 1 but the following thread may help

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=40310&highlight=difference

The old shape octavia had two sets of trim levels.

Originally it was LX and GLX with a 90bhp 1.9tdi , or an SLX with the 110hp version.

Then they facelifted them a bit and changed the model names.

Classic and Ambiente had the 90 bhp engine , and elegance had the 110 (then later the 130 but that'll be well outside your budget)

The middle level cars have aircon and leccy windows.

The top spec ones get climate and a sunroof as well as a few more toys and the better engine

For your budget you should be able to get an early elegance quite easily.

This one went for £4100 on ebay

On current listings there are a couple of nice ones.

or

is a slightly older SLX with the higher spec engine for the same price

I have an 03 elegance tdi which has been excellent so far (68k miles)

cheers that thread was certainly worth a read seems to be a bit of difference between the 110 115 and the 130 150, internal bits wise

might be worth my time just getting a cheap 90 bhp jobbie then and consider finding a 130 or 150 lump at some point to drop into it? any one done or considered anything like that ?

fabia 12v dude whats that skoda screen thing you got then ... me likes :)

Don't bother!

It's not at all a simple job to even get it running and will cost a lot more than just buying a higher spec car in the first place. One of the regulars here replaced a 100bhp tdi engine in a fabia with a 130bhp version and it took months and a lot of cash (though he was making a few other changes as well)

As for my links , both the elegance and the SLX are the higher output 110 bhp version. I just meant higher spec compared to a GLX or ambiente which would be 90.

I've not driven a 90bhp car , but the 110 is surprisingly rapid when you go for it , and if you decide that you want more power later on it can be remapped to produce about 145bhp which would cost you about £400. This would be a more sensible bet than trying an engine swap.

OH , and one more thing that I just thought about , the cam belt needs changing every 80000 miles on these engines , but a lot of garages will do them at 60k. If you go for a higher mileage one try and pick one thats had it done recently to save yourself a bill for a couple of hundred quid.

I'd agree. The 110 is the way to go. The 90 is old hat and old technology. Opting for the 110 is the cheapest route into variable geometry turbo technology which i'd consider a minimum spec before you start to mod. Should have no probs on the money your looking to spend although you'd need to go for something with fairly high mileage I think.

Yes , double din stereo and plenty of room in the boot for a nice sub and amp.
