Egr Valve Knackered

Featured Replies

On the way home a few days ago engine management light came on,lucky for me i had my vcds with me - one scan later = EGR N18 malfunction / Lucky i have the AA Garage repair scheme, The con is with the aa they wanted me to take it too halfords auto centre who said id need to pay a extra £350 that wasn't covered by the £500 limit on the policy.... A few phone calls later got a new genuine part from eurocar parts £252 trade to me & my mates garage fitting it £150 labour, The aa said it would cover upto £381.16 cost but id need to pay the bill myself & claim it back as my m8s garage isn't vat registered, I was given an authorisation code for the job & told id be paid out approx 7 - 14 days.

The moral of this story is :

Tps wanted £326 for the same genuine part from eurocar parts £252.

Halford auto centre working on my car & me getting ripped off .......NO WAY.

Maybe not a "PC" thing to say, but as I'd expect the AA is just part of the business world that feel it their right to empty our wallet that is as good as it gets. That reminds me, I must try to remember to challenge the AA's huge rates they charge me for nothing when the reminder comes in.

common fault on all VAG Group 1.6 tdi engines  :nerd:

I had this fault, however, it showed itself on the way home from collecting the car from new!!

dealer said it was crap in the fuel line as it seemed to re-set itself after switching off then on again. after several repititions of the problem, I took the car back to the dealer and said I wanted my money back as the car was not fit for purpose.

needless to say, they fixed the issue and fitted the car with a load of additional merchandise (boot mat, mud flaps, first aid kit etc)

still a pain to go through though.

That's quite cheap. On a Golf (and presumably Octavia ) the bill is much bigger (another digit!) due to the stripping down required and lack of access (DPF & driveshaft removed)

It helps being in the trade & having a mate who runs his own garage  :notme:

I had one go faulty on my mondeo , I had an exchange one from my local motor factor for £130 , got £30 back when I returned the old broken one

I had 2 Mondeo 130PS (TDci) and a Tourneo 125PS and all 3 were better with the EGR blanked off (£3 job)
