Best place for a new standard /oem type clutch in the Chester /North Wales area

Featured Replies

The clutch is finally starting to crunch when I'm going for reverse and is very quickly approaching 130k with me doing 500 miles per week so it's going to need replacing sooner rather than later.

I don't have the facilities to do anything like myself & need somewhere where I can just give then the car & get the work done without being done over on price.

I have no plans to upgrade anything so don't need anything more than a standard / oem type clutch.

Ideally looking for somewhere close to home in the North Wales / Chester area or can do somewhere close to Manchester city centre where I work.

Any ideas on what I can expect to pay?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

After doing some digging around myself it appears that Darkside developments are around 2 hours drive from me which isn't a problem and they are offering this kit for £315 and fitting for an extra £240 which would be £555 all in which seems like a very good price.

Is there anything better out there or do I just bite the bullet and go with Darkside?

Sale VW Audi just outside manc city centre if all you need is standard replacement. You can leave the car there while you work too. Only worth trailing over to ds for something specific like a upgraded item. Ive used sale vw audi small garage for years the prices are sensible and the boss man doesnt mess about.

Pretty sure Darkside prices are + VAT,not inclusive.so your looking at over £650 with VAT.

Should be able to find a decent private garage to do it for £500 all in :)

Been having a phone around this morning & the best price I've been able to get is £600 all in / fitted for a Sachs DMF kit.

This seems fairly reasonable as the cheapest I can get the kit myself is around £330 even with the discounts knocking around for GSF & euro car parts. Most places I've spoken to want £250 + VAT to fit the clutch if I supplied which would take the overall cost over £600.

If anyone knows of where I can get the clutch kit cheaper than £330 then please shout up.

Right, been told by lots of garages that I need to ensure that the Concentric Slave Cylinder is replaced when the gearbox is out & the clutch gets replaced. However, I have been told by a local clutch & gearbox specialist this morning that the slave cylinder does not need to be replaced and that this sits on the outside (top) of the gearbox so could done at any point.

Am I missing something here?  Why would you not replace the slave cylinder regardless of where it is located if you are replacing everything else?

This local place can do it for £540 all in but this does not include the slave cylinder by the sounds of things.

For the sake of £30 id replace it.

They clearly don't know anything about the gearbox set up!

The CSC is fitted inside the bellhousing, the gearbox needs removing to get it off.

So it needs to be replaced and usually comes in a complete kit anyway.
