Timing belt & waterpump

Featured Replies

Hi

As this site has helped me a lot since I bought my vrs 4months or so now thought I'd ask for help on this as am a newbie, my vrs needs both doing and was wondering if anyone could point me to the direction on which to buy as I have been delaying it till I know which one is right etc so would be so grateful if anyone could help

You mean which brand? The specialist who fitted mine said don't buy any other than a genuine water pump. I generally go with gates belts as there's no question about the quality (they supply a lot of manufacturers).

I believe Gates supply most manufactures anyway and they just re-brand them as their own. They are also used on most British Army engines so they can't be bad!

Nice one lads any chance of a link or something where I can buy ? And tbh I was confused about something like using the metal impeller or something along them lines I just didn't/don't know which one is best etc

I just ordered the parts from my dealers. No idea if it was placid or metal. Had the original one on till 120k then thought best to change it.

In fairness a metal impeller while it won't brake off can be another problem in itself. For example if it was to seize/jam it would likely take the cam-belt and your engine with it! That's why they are made from plastic in most cars. It's better the plastic snaps then something much stronger jamming and taking everything else out with it!

You can get cambelt/waterpump kits on e-bay or as said above go to a Skoda dealer and price one up. Most specialists will also sell them such as darkside.
