possible chip tune box under bonnet

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to forums but figured it would be a good place to start looking for an answer to a question.

I recently bought a 2004 Skoda Fabia vRS as a project car, good performance, good handling, its an overall good package. I was doing a few bits to it earlier and found a mystery box in front of the battery. The box is clearly aftermarket and has been spliced into the loom. I've removed the box, which I'm figuring is a chip tune box thing but I'm still left with the extra cabling that clearly has a use somewhere on the car but I can't find the place where its intended to be. That and the box has an aftermarket female and I need a Skoda genuine one if I ever find the male for it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Jacob

Well, how about you help us and post a photo :p   it will allow us to make better educated answers for you.  Include a photo of the box too.

As will the name of the supplier (if on box); it could be something reputable like, say, a TunIt or with the info you've not posted it could equally be a Fleabay resistor.

Ballast for a hid kit?

I will post a picture of it soon, thanks for the idea hahaa the box has no markings or branding on it and the part number doesn't check out as anything. There is though a ballast resistor in the splicing. Will post picture, on that note, how do you upload a picture on here?... Thanks for the replies

Also, what's do you mean by hid kit? Or HID kit?

Two days to post a picture,,,,,, My nan can do better than that lol.

Maybe the OP works, or doesn't indeed need an answer sharpish, or has much more important things to be concerning themselves with at present.......yeesh!

High-intensity discharge headlamps.

Maybe it was just tongue in cheek.

I'm so sorry its taken so long but I finally have the pictures after emailing and hunting down computers to use. Really daft question but how do you upload pictures onto here so I can show them?

You need a photobucket (or similar) account, up load to that and post the links here.

Fair point, perhaps the addition of a winking emoticon/smiley could help ;)

thats the rest of them. its a chip tune box and i'm wondering wires, if any, need reconnecting or if to just rip the lot out as i dont want it in there because its doing literally nothing, runs the same with and without it. the pictures show splicing, where its connected in the engine, what it looks like in the black wrapping and out of it, i've tried to get the pictures to show where the wires have been spliced and where one has become two, all other splicing is in red tape.

thank you

The big main Connectors look decent, but looks like it's been ripped of another car before...................

defo a chip tuning box of some kind, no name, no serial number, might be a box of bits from china to fubar your engine.............

remove & quarantine offending article until such time as you can ascertain what it is..............

thats what i was thinking. its a spliced thing but its a half decent job. i've already removed the box now its just the wiring. the connectors are the same purple as on the box as well and have additional ports for the green wire, the green is a foreign wire and only goes to the box, it come off a green and yellow wire which comes from lower down the loom, if you look through the pictures you'll find the one i mean. i'm wondering if they need to be reconnected after i've removed the box? or if i should get new connectors and perhaps the wires to go between them so the loom is back to the way it would have been?

If you think thats a half decent job I'd be worried. It's atrocious!

I meant more when it was wrapped up. Don't get me wrong it's hateful. Still wondering whether to rewire or get a new wiring section from the engine connector to the one down from it...
