2d Service at 33k miles Information? 170hp TDI

Featured Replies

Well Yeti has now covered just over 33k miles and will be due its second service in a week or so. Mainly trouble free though I think it may have a broken spring as there is a metal clank audible sometimes over speed bumps. I've not been able to locate it myself despite wheels off and jacked up, no doubt it will get picked up at the service or MOT.

I've carried out oil changes myself in between times as although running long life oil I like clean new oil which brings me to the 2nd service, any ideas as to the cost  and whats actually carried out. Last service was by Westend Skoda in Banockburn and iirc around £163.

If you're out of warranty....considered doing the service yourself ?

I buy all the genuine filters, oil etc from TPS (if I ask nicely, I usually get their trade club discount which means filters etc are heavily discounted, usually around half price) then do it myself.

Alternatively there's the "Skoda Parts" service on this site - email them and they'll quote for delivered parts.

EDIT: Mine's a 170 too - if there's any info you need, feel free to ask. Just bought the latest load of service stuff this week, intend to be doing mine in the next week or two (engine oil / filter, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter, gearbox oil). I've done the Haldex oil previously myself as well.

When I get my first battery car I'll be doing all my own servicing ....lube door locks replace wiper blades and all the other similarly heavy and dirty jobs.

How much should I be paying for this 2nd service, whats the going rate?

See here...

Minor (fixed) service - 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first, £139. An oil and oil filter change.

Major (variable / long life) service - upto 20,000 miles or 24 months, £259. An oil and oil filter change, fuel filter* (diesel), spark plugs* (petrol), pollen filter* and air filter*.

* only replaced if required, which for most Skoda models isn't until at least three years or 60,000 miles.

As a result of the small print above be sure your car needs the additional parts before agreeing to the more expensive service.

Also note that these are the maximum prices you should pay, dealers will price match if you can find better pricing locally from a non-franchised independant garage as long as their quote includes the use of genuine parts.

Ask for the parts that "need replacing".
