Scuttle Drain Holes

Featured Replies

I have water in drivers and drives side passenger footwell. The door seals are dry, so I am guessing either sunroof or scuttle.

Does anyone have pictures showing where the drain holes are on this car?

Skoda Fabia VRS 53.

Cheers.

I've got some photos of these on a 9N Polo if no-one can do you Fabia-specific.  Must be mighty similar I'd think. Hang on while I get them into a good place from which to post.

Driver's side end of the scuttle:

Passenger side end:

The second pic shows a big loom bunch going through a grommet, down towards the ECU. This isn't supposed to be a drain path AFAIK, but in practice does drip some through where the grommet meets the steel. There's another bunch near the other end, close to the brake servo which is similarly drippy around the grommet fitting.

Second photo also shows the cabin air entry slot (on the left of the pic near the top, with re-circulate flap in 'fresh-air' position). This illustrates how much water needs to accumulate in the scuttle area before it'll go through into the cabin, but I guess if the drain holes are blocked well enough, that's only a matter of rate of rain versus rate of drain.

Well I cleared the scuttle out and although there was a lot of crap in there I am not convinced that was the issue.

So If the door seals are dry and the scuttle drain holes are clear any other suggestions what it could be and where I would look for evidence.

The problem is I haven't got evidence of water or damp anywhere except the wet carpets driver and driver side passenger foot well. And I have not seen a drip anywhere.

Any help advice gratefully appreciated.

Have you checked the rear door seals are ok?

Yes, the seals around the rear door are dry.

It will probably be the door carrier seal. After its been tipping it down, open the rear door and see if there is water on top of the rear door seal on the bottom edge. Other thing to check is if the door card on the rear door is damp, mouldy or discoloured at the bottom.

It really isn't the rear door.

I had water in my passenger footwell last year so pulled out the seat and the sound proofing as it was soaking wet and I had water running in via a hole see picture also my turbo gave in so the mechanic cleared the scuttles out and it's seemed to have cured it so far. See picture.post-95448-0-50613800-1446683921_thumb.jpgpost-95448-0-00041000-1446684018_thumb.jpg second picture is in the rear footwell, I popped it out wiped it over and replaced back in.

If clearing the scuttle out doesn't fix this issue, I have a feeling this is going to be a nightmare and maybe never get fixed unless I'm willing to throwing £100's of garage labour at it, whilst they pull up the carpets etc.

Couple of questions:

1) I had a similar issue ( unbelievably ) with my superb, which eventually got into the wire loom and ecu box, which broke the car. Is there similar under the driver seat in a Fabia VRS?

2) Apart from taking the carpets out, anyone know a good way of getting up most of the water from the carpets, so I can have a good idea if I have fixed the issue or not?

If you can, stick a de-humidifier in your car

Wet or dry vacuum cleaner will get a lot of it out.
