Cracked EGR pipe

Featured Replies

Evening all

Wondered if anyone else has had this....the upper EGR pipe (from manifold to EGR cooler/valve) on my CR170 appears to have cracked, on the "concertina'd" part of the pipe.

It's causing quite a loud whine under load, and the area around it at the back of the engine is pretty sooty.

Access looks like a nightmare, as the propshaft & transfer box etc seem to be in the way if accessing from underneath, was wondering if anyone knows how much labour is involved to replace it ?

There was a thread on here somewhere recently of someone having the egr valve or sensor replaced. There were some good photo's, and all of what you mentioned plus a lot more had to come off.

Have a look at thread called " Limp Mode " by AndyC all the photo's are on it.

Hope it's under warranty because I seem to recall the EGR replacement is a BIG job and to me represents the Yeti's (+) Achilles heel when it comes to 'economy' . (makes me hanker for a N-S engine sometimes)

Access to the pipe would be similar I would think.

It shouldn't need the EGR cooler/valve assembly replacing, just the pipe I think.

The true cost comes down to 'access' .

And it's a case of how many miles the original EGR has done ......wouldn't want to go there twice with the labour cost involved......maybe it can be cleaned up a bit to extend its life while they are there.

True, I have thought about that.

But if the pipe replacement is easier/cheaper, I'll probably just get the EGR function mapped out and drop a blanking plate in the pipe (there's an easily accessible section that comes out the front of the cylinder head).

Ohoo

Tempting!

Something easily accessible ....I like the mere thought of that.

Yeti is in an independent VAG specialist today - they've confirmed the EGR pipe is cracked.

Had to take it in, as the noise was getting pretty bad and constant.

Parts ordered, so they should start working on it tomorrow.

Fingers crossed on the labour cost!

All sorted. Some photos of the offending pipe:
