Cool(ed) storage

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I ordered through work an Ambiente, and one feature I liked was the cooled central storage box.

Got the car - very nice, but no central storage box... has this been withdrawn? I see in the intro article the mention: "Jumbo Box storage box with armrest, cooled inner space..."

WANT ONE  - what can I do? I see there is just TDI on the back, no mention of "Ambiente" (someone said it has been left off the new models).

My suspicion is that I have a standard model upgraded with the 6-CD box in the boot, etc...

Can I get the central box added?

Tony

In my brochure [which admittedly is from June 05] the jumbo box is an extra that the Elegance has as standard over the Ambiente. For an Ambiente the box is a factory fitted option at over

You are not missing much. It holds 1 can of beer, sorry coke at a push. The armrest attached to it is nice though.

Doesn't really hold a can all that well either. And it's drectly related to the heater temp, so it fills with hot air this time of year. Armrest gets in the way of the handbrake. Wish i didn't have it on mine. You can fit 5 and a half CDs in it too, so tehy keep rattling. Really quality piece of engineering.

I certainly would not have ordered it as an extra, at over

As Frankie Howard might have said;

Use your first finger on the end of your (handbrake) ****; don't wrap your fingers round it like your used to.

... ooohh missus

There is a lever inside which stops any air going into the box.

Thanks - that's all I need to know! I reckon I must have been given an old brochure - I wasn't buying from the dealer as it is a company car - so they didn't care!

The centre JUMBO box as I read it, is warmed, the gloevbox is cooled....

The air in the glovebox and jumbo box are at the same temperature.

The brochure refers to the jumbo box as "air conditioned". Presumably that means cooled or warmed according to your climate control dial temperature setting?

Or does it have its own temperature control hidden somewhere inside the fusebox, spare tyre, or round the back of Pluto?

i'll re-read the handbook then but my experience so far is that things in the centre get warm, things in the glovebox get cold.

If it's anything like the Superbs, They will both just get air at whatever temp you have the a/c set too.

Only any use in hottest of climates, even on the hottest days of our english summer the 'cooling' effect is next to useless, took nearly 8 hours of driving around with a/c on full blast on lowest setting (and dial in 'cooling boxes' fully open) to have any kind of effect on the temparature of the two cans at all!! they still weren't cold, just barely below the ambient temperature.

Just checked the owner's manual. I read it like this.

The air sent to the Jumbo box is at the same temperature as the other vents. In cars with dual climate control the Jumbo Box and rear vents are at the same temperature as the drivers side dash vents.

The glovebox air comes on when you turn on A/C or run climate control with 'ECON' turned off. The glovebox is designed for cooling only. The manual valve in the glovebox is to allow you to stop the glovebox heating if you have Econ off but your climate control is 'heating' the cabin.

It seems to me then if you have climate control you can use the glovebox for heating 'or' cooling then. I presume the glovebox air temperture is the same as the passenger side vents if you have dual climate control.

Sounds a bit contradictory. I think the puchase of two kit-kats it required here :)
