2002 Fabia SDI: weird electrical problems

Featured Replies

Hi,

I bought a little Fabia 1.9 SDi as a runabout. It's a great little car but seems to have a variety of amusing electrical problems, which are:

- Fuel gauge intermittently stops working

- Temperature warning light comes on occasionally for no reason (temp gauge is fine and car doesn't overheat)

- Left speaker doesn't work on stereo

- Heater intermittently only blows hot

I am fairly handy with auto electrics but I am also lazy, so I wondered if anyone knew any correlation between these problems before I start troubleshooting. I'm thinking bad ground somewhere, but where?

It is possible that they could all be seperate problems, of course, but it seems a bit of a coincidence :D

Cheers !

Temp warning light is usually caused by dirty sensor probes in the expansion tank. You can't reach them to clean them but a whole new tank is only about £15.

I recently fixed intermittent speakers on a workmate's 2002 car. It was the circuit board within the factory radio/cassette which the connectors solder onto. It took a fair amount of disassembly to get access though. Vertical daughter board off main PCB, with soldered-down screening can obscuring the pins I needed to re-flow.

Worth the struggle though.

Could maybe confirm whether you have same issue by trying a.n. other radio on the car, see if problem stays or goes.
