Wheel squeak at quarter steering wheel turn right!

Featured Replies

Hi all, has anyone else come across a wheel squeak when your steering wheel is turned slightly? Above 40 mph the noise goes away but I think that's just because the road noise covers it up. It happens at a quarter turn of the steering wheel right, at any other point in the steering the noise disappears. I believe it's related to the brakes as it happened going downhill around a bend and when I touched the brakes I could change the pitch of the tone.

Anyone got any advice on this?

Sounds like the pads maybe sticking on slightly.

What on the front? The rears have calliper springs fitted.

Yes the front. They might just need cleaning up or the caliper or piston might be sticking.

maybe track rod ends or the steering rack its self.

then again, it could be the drop links, if ur braking it would change the weight load of the front (increasing it) thus applying more pressure on the anti-roll bar and links.

Drop links and track rod ends are cheap enough but as TMB has mentioned, try cleaning ur brakes first and give them a good service.

So i cleaned the brakes off and that fixed it for 2 weeks...I have a feeling its the heat/dust sheild behind the calliper thats bending forward as its rotten through.

Looking to get some off breakeryard.com and Hammerright them!

Disc dust shields are not mandatory, but if they're that rusty they may be an MOT fail if they're contacting the discs.

Maybe make life easy and buy new ones from "MisterAuto" - a friend did that and they were genuine VAG ones - I think that is the name of the online car parts supplier, he seems to buy all the repair parts needed to keep his daughter's 2003 Polo on the road from that source as he is not a VAG person! (Ford Mondo)

I was wrong he bought them off ebay from "superbcarparts" !
