Correct torque values for towbar bolts

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'm in the process of transferring a towbar onto my 2001 Skoda Octavia hatchback. Unfortunately I've no longer got the fitting instructions and do not know what torque values to use for the bolts. I bought the towbar from Towequipe and although I contacted them through their website last week they've not replied. Tried ringing and couldn't understand the person who answered the phone! I've messaged them again today, but does anyone here know what the torque values would be?

I believe this towbar could also be used on mk2 Golf, A3 and Leon.

I think I may just have to do the bolts up FT...

Thanks,

Roo.

I did mine FT lol.

One vote for FT.

Whilst the bar is not exactly the same as yours, this is a link to the fitting instructions for the flanged bar that is fitted to my father in laws car - http://www.pfjones.co.uk/witter/SK9.pdf

It may fill in some of the gaps for you as the mounting points are very similar on most of the Octavia  bars.

Edit - my removable bar instructions for comparison if it helps - http://www.catalogue.bosal.com/pdf/pdf_mi/048133.pdf

I'd do them up FT as well, but just before the point of "broken". If in doubt, you could always use general torque figures for metric bolts as a guide:

5 mm = 6 nm
6 mm = 7 nm

8 mm = 20 nm
10 mm = 47 nm
12 mm = 61 nm
