Hot start prob again plus other bits!

Featured Replies

Hi looking for some ideas and help please, after a few years away from the site and Skodas I'm back. Have acquired a 54 plate 1.9tdi BJB engine with 93000 miles as second car.

The car has the Hot start problem, cold and she fires straight away, once up to temp she takes ages a good 6-7 secs before firing. Garage I got the car from have just had it back for 6 days! All they have done is put a new battery on the car, 6 days!! Needless to say I don't wish to return and will find a good garage locally next week. The battery is an Exide with the higher cranking power and from reading other posts seemed a good place for them to start. What are your thoughts and is there anything I can do to check things over the weekend?

Also at idle if I gently push the accelerator the car vibrates almost like a heat shield is rattling? I don't have the clutch engaged at this point, I have to rev it a bit harder when pulling away from stationery to eliminate this vibration, the clutch feels perfect with no slip etc?

Look forward to any suggestions, Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Mike,

The flywheel I did think this but maybe I was I denial! I guess I wouldn't need to touch the clutch pedal as the flywheel will be turning anyway at idle? As someone who is a SMF convert how much will I be looking at paying at a good independant? Also do you think the flywheel could be related to the hot start issue? How long generally will it last if starting to go?

Many thanks.

Thank you Mike you have been most helpful. I am just outside Southampton in Hampshire, will update my profile accordingly.

I will have a look regarding an independent next week and keep you updated with the result, think I am sold on the SMF from everything I have read.
