Polo 9n 1.2 Loss of Drive

Featured Replies

Hi guys sorry not Skoda but at least it's VAG.

My son has a 54 plate 9n Polo 1.2, just had to go out and recover him at daft oclock in the morning (grrr). The clutch pedal feels ok and can get it into gear but only a very small amount of drive once pedal is released. Managed to drive it about a mile to a secure place in second gear going nice and steady. Pretty sure clutch was slipping but no nasty smells that I would of expected.

Has anyone got any ideas of what it could be please.

Cheers

Had a similar thing on our 2005 polo 1.2, only just occassionally.

It would be fine.. But then all of a sudden, usually when going uphill, it would just cut power and revs go back to tickover.

Be interesting to hear if you find out what it is. We didnt :(

Hi thanks for the reply, defo clutch related as gears are fine and also unlike yours it'll rev perfectly well. Always happens when ya don't have time doesn't it. Will have a quick nosey round shortly then gingerly drive it to a local garage. Not sure where clutch slave cylinder is but I'll see if I can see any fluid leaking from somewhere but suspect it'll be the clutch it's self.

If the clutch is slipping don't bother looking at the slave cylinder etc as this is used for releasing the clutch. The clutch is normally engaged until you press the pedal, so slippage is either the friction plate or the pressure plate. Wearing clutches usually give you some warning, like the pedal taking up in a higher position. We used to move the car with the front bumper against a wall with some thick cardboard or similar between the wall and the bumper to protect it, Then in first gear we would gently let the clutch out to see if it slips,

Could also be a drive shaft / diff problem.
