Dilemma, coming back to the black stuff maybe??

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Jumped across from Seatcupra.net for some points of view.

I currently drive an Ibiza 1.8FR with cupra kit on it and running about 230BHp.

But i am getting a bit ****ed off with Fuel economy, don't get me wrong, performance is good and i love it to bits, but with a healthy appetite for optimax i seme to be doing around

Personally I'll never have a petrol car again. If you do the miles you say you do, then get a diesel. As for the badge? The vRS is a respected car. Example:

Yesterday we decided to go to Skipton Xmas shopping. I parked in the road (Sunday no restriction) and sat in the car while SWMBO continued to shop. The amount of people who stopped in front of the car and looked at it amazed me. One guy even tapped on the window and asked me questions about it.

Out on the open road young lads in Saxos, Corsa's and Seat's (sorry) can be annoying IMO. All they want to do is race you. Forget Petrol. Get a Fabia vRS. You will not look back !!

Why not keep the Ibiza for weekends and get a cheap TDI that you can just stack miles on for commuting? Best of both worlds ;)

Chris

I have a Fab vRS, but if you like the Cupra why not spend £1500 on a gas conversion kit, 35ppl. Some folks on here run their Octavia vRS on LPG.

Spirited driving gets around 20mpg, steady driving around 45mpg. on a long run maybe 50mpg.

Also i am if honest still a little worried about the Age old stigma ( i grew up in the 80's) of owning a skoda' date=' how do you guys feel about this, anyone get any stick?

:[/quote']

Just remember, you are buying the car for you ,not for someone else.Who cares what they think;)

In all honesty, get mid 40's from ours. That involves town traffic but also the flooring it at 2k revs whenever possible.Great fun:thumbup:

I'm with Chris, keep it and got a cheap diesel to run around town in. Have the ibiza as a weekend/fun car.

If you dont want to do that then why not stick with seat? Ibiza Cupra TDi will be quicker than a standard fabia and I hear when tuned they put out more that the fabia will.

well i just noticed the local Audi dealer has a black VRS, and just phoned to see if its there and if i can grab a test drive. so Gonna shoot round there at lunch.

Mid 40's is that it, my old golf used to average 55, i thought the fabia would be the same. ummmm, ok, i'll see how lunch time goes, done nothing at all at work yet, just checking up o fabia's, tut tut!!!

Most people seem to get over 50 on average... Personally I get around 39.... but then my driving style is a bit petrolish still as even after a few months i still forget that im not in a pansy petrol

I get from 40-60 mpg in my Fabia VRS depending on conditions. There's a number of people on Briskoda who used to earn Suburu Imprezza's, search for them and they should be able to answer your questions about switching from a high-powered petrol to a performance diesel.

I think you should "go for it"!

P.S As for the Stigma of owning a Skoda i don;t think it really applys to much these days, besides the look of shock on boy-racers faces as you blow them into the reeds is priceless!

Ok just been out on a test drive at the Audi garage, thye have a second hand Black Fabia VRS, 22000 miles on the clock on a 53 plate and was up for 10550,

I was shocked at lack of room in the front, compared to my Ibiza and my mums Polo ( new shape) only thing i can put this down to is being 4 door and the pillar being further forward and i am 6 ft 3. But it looked nice in the black and loved the dash.

Well took it around some local roads and on to the A3 to give it some, and the salesman was quite happy or me to really give it some. And i got to say it was a nice drive, the ride was nice, but not as gutsy as i thought it would be, around town it was ok and felt brisk enough off ht elights, but felt lacking out on the A3 when i put my foot down, i suspect this ma have been because it is standard and has less torque than my 1.8T ( a remap woud sort that out).

But i really am not sure, it showed an indicated 41 mpg average, for my 15 mile test. And the brakes were quite shocking ( however i think this may be because of the tim it had been sitting on the forecourt.

Any how, all confused now, cos i was expecting more, and assumed that would make it a lot easier to decided, Black is defiantley the best colour though!!!!!!

once i got back in mine to blast back to work it made it even worse. cos it was running like a dream and i really am in 2 minds now.

Sensible side says go for the VRS or a TDi ibiza cos of fuel economy and costs.

But my 26 year old Male side says, nope stick with Ibiza and whack on a 290 JBS conversion.

To be honest after discussing prices with the Salesman on mine, it looks like i may have to hold on to mine for a while longer as i will loose too much on the trade.

So in short not sure now, bu pleased i took the test drive as it has helped me partly make my mind up.

thanks for your comments and help, i'l let you know how it all pans out

Keep the Ibiza. You obviously like it more than the fabia.

agreed keep the ibiza and either LPG it or get a runabout.

Just to reply to one comment I found the ibiza to be cramped inside compaired to the fabia. My dad (6'4) can sit in the fabia with no issues where as in the ibiza he felt very cramped.

You've spent a fair bit on the ibiza so you may as well stick with it!

Oh and around town I will get about 46mpg and on a good cruise 54+

Spend

So my question is' date=' has anyone on here gone from a high spec Petrol car to a furby VRS and were you disappointed. If in my situation in your honest opionin do you think it makes sense to go for it,

I went from BMW M3 to Fabia vRS with no regrets! It's a great car in std. form as long as you have realistic expectations!

With a remap and also Eibachs, the car is transformed and I can honestly say that I enjoy driving it just as much as the M3!

45 mpg is a big bonus in todays fuel climate!

PS 50+ mpg is achievable if you decide that you want to drive that way!:D

Interesting question Ant as I have been pondering the reverse situation - I have a fabia VRS remapped etc. but due to a job change, my annual mileage has reduced quite a bit so I'm wondering whether I should plumb for a fast petrol - or alternatively stick a big turbo on my fabia a la Jason (Devonutopia) etc. and keep it. I'm tempted to do something stupid and get an M3, S4 or TVR 350C and enjoy it whilst I can, but clearly there are financial implication of this... any thoughts on going to the non-black stuff (don't know what you'd call it?) much appreciated. I love the fabia's flexibility, handling and infact overall performance, however, I have a craving for more power, like 0-60 in around 5 seconds or less!

BTW, I usually get over 50mpg and 460 miles per tank with a mix of fast acceleration and granny like fuel conserving driving in between! :D

I'd say the Cupra is more sporty to start with, a standard vRS needs a little work before you get similar handling etc.

LPG sounds like a good idea as it's relatively low-cost and it means less lost on your current car.

I've ended up spending a few grand on the vRS, still need to get some stuff fitted, to try and get it sorted, then a remap will follow early next year. I'm hoping it will be enough :)

I do between 500 and 1000 miles per week in it, and so far all that's installed is the strut brace & Cupra intake. 25k on the clock next week, and no problems.

It's a totally different driving experience though, you'll know what you want :)

sorry to resurect an old thread.

but i have come back to the black stuff, just it ended up being a 54plate Ibiza FR Tdi in platinum grey, 11k on the clock ( three services been done already previous guy believed in 5000 mile oil changes!!). only costing around 2k to change and my FR 20vt has 42000 miles on the clock now so i did ok in the end. Managed to sell about £2k worth of parts from the 20vt so not really costing much at all.

should have picked it up last thursday but new DVLA procedure for private plates put paid to that,

anyhoo once i do pick it up i have a set of CUpra 17" mk4 wheels to whack on and my old Brembo's, cupra intake and green filter and forge front mount off the group buy. and then remap time.

can't wait to 50mpg again

You'll be back :P
