Charging battery while in car on fabia 1

Featured Replies

Hi People

I am sure this has been asked before, forgive me if there is a post i have not found.

I have always disconnected and removed battery on my Fabia 1 to charge it.

I have encountered problems doing this, car electric windows reversed switching, left did right etc, radio problems too

I wonder i have a new battery and would like to top it up for winter, can i charge while in car without disconnecting and avoid problems ?

I have an intelligent battery charger.

Thanks in advance

I have seen advice that you should disconnect the battery from the car before using a garage fast charger but never for the domestic sort which charges at 3 to 6 amps. Especially with an intelligent charger, you do not need to disconnect when charging.

If you've just fitted a new battery then you don't need to charge it at all, it'll be fully charged.

IF you have to charge a battery, you have PROBLEMS, which need investigating. I don't do a lot of miles, possibly 4k /year, and I have no need to do anything. Only time in 50 years of driving ,I've had to put battery on charge ( that included olde days of dynamo), was when I'd left lights on ,or battery was in aged state. Batteries need to WORK- that means charge/discharge, not being molly coddled(which might do more harm than good). Only time I'd put one on charge ,is if I'd put car on sidelines for a week or two.

Thanks guys

i should have stated, i do not use my car very often now

when i say new battery its about 8 months old

if it's a smart charger it can't do anything but good   especially as were starting into winter  it doesn't seem to be common knowledge but alternators as good as they are will never fully charge a battery to it's max
