Gear change tight 1st and 2nd

Featured Replies

Hi guys I recently done an oil change in the box and put the high performance stuff in thinking it would be best for the box as that's what I was supplied, I've been reading up and finding that it's the high performance oil which causes this, is this oil really that bad? Thanks

What grade have you used?

75w80 fully synthetic you want.

Mine had 75w90 when I bought the car, cold gear changes were very notchy, lovely once I changed it to 75w80 :)

I bought the high performance stuff listed for my car through dealer, it's terrible cold and more bearable warm, it wasn't like that before the oil change

Moral of the story:

Leave your gearbox oil alone, it's fully synthetic and will easily last the design lifetime of the gearbox.

Sorry I should of stated the oil had to be drained in order to do what was getting done and no that has nothing to do with why it's tight, I wasn't putting the old oil back in
