How Clever is that?????

Featured Replies

Driving along on Saturday, towing a trailer full of junk to the tip, when an orange warning light comes on on the dash (picture of a bulb), and the Maxidot displays "Trailer right turn signal defective".

Didn't even know it could sense defective lights on the trailer, let alone warn you so specifically about them!

My FIL has got a towing ball fitted for his caravan and he had a defective reverse lamp on one side. He only realised when I told him. He dedn't appear to get a maxidot warning.

What towing gear have you got fitted? His is a Witter

If the towbar and wiring are compatible with the cars CAN-BUS (like the official Skoda one) it will tell you that as the can bus system is similar to the plug and play system in computers, where it recognises what things are.

Sounds like a great feature!

Nothing more annoying than following a trailer whos brake lights flash instead of the indicators, or all the lights do a funny sequence of dimming and flashing!

Like on old Fords with earthing problems!!

Always adds a bit of mystery and intrigue to your journey!! 'is he turning left or right? - oh no hes just slowing down!'

Minor point but there is no official Skoda towbar for the Octy II. Skoda dealers use a VW one as Skoda haven't yet brought out one specifically designed for the OctyII.

That is clever!!!

I wish alternately flashing headlights were legal on non-emergency vehicles. They really make you take notice - combine 'em with a 5 chime airhorn I think - watch all the crossing gates come down!!!

Wonder what the Czech equivalent of "Dixie" is?

"Bratislava Hand-Bag Slapping Song"??

Didn't know they were illegal on non emergency vehicles!! thought it was only the blue lights that were not allowed.

You can buy an alternate flashing headlight kit on e-bay, I know cos I bought one:O

Not fitted yet (and will probably never get round to it) but I just bought it so in conjunction with the (def illegal) blue flashing grille lights, I could pull over my other taxi driving chums in the early hours of the morning and watch them sweat, then speed off into the distance laughing at them!! :D

I'm not certain they're illegal but I think I have read somewhere that they are. Like air horns that play tunes rather than just blow a chord.

Aaah, I guess I just want to pretend I'm a CSX AC4400 !

BTW nobody has any equivalent to Dixie [tune or place!] - I go there every year and ya'all have to know it is great! Many of my friends are rednecks but their idea of a family motor is a 6 seater pickup with a 6.8 ltr V8 supercharged diesel. Looks like a builder's truck but has an awful lot of grunt!

Mine is a factory fit Skoda removeable one.

It is something specific to the Skoda electrics.

My car initially had non Skoda electrics and the maxidot didn't work with my trailor board. But after I had loads of electrical problems, the towbar electrics were swapped for Skoda ones - and, hey, the maxidot starts to warn of problems. Which, given the state of my trailor board, is quite often!

So, Skoda don't do their own towbar and use a VW one? That will be why they are so expensive then. Doesn't explain why mine still has a Skoda logo on the tow ball cap though.

That's exactly why it so expensive. My sales guy at my dealer was genuinely embarrassed when he told how much it was. I think maybe VW have drawn the line at allowing Skoda to design their own and hence charge Skoda prices for it which is a bit mean really.
