Track Days

Featured Replies

So I am already thinking about next year’s resolutions and something I have always wanted to do is a track day.  I have seen lots of posts and videos on here and looks like a really great day out.

Now I don’t want to be one of those people that turn up and pretend to know how to drive a car around the track.  I have seen the Nurburgring crashes and I guess even good drivers get caught out sometimes.  So I have been looking at places you can go with your car and practice first with a trained driver.

I have seen this one for a 90 minutes’ session for £175.

This is a rare opportunity to take your own car, which doesn’t have to be a Porsche, on to the unique Porsche Test Tracks to discover more about the handling characteristics of your own car.

Spend 90 minutes on our specially designed track environments with one-to-one guidance from your own Porsche Driving Consultant. Off the track there will be interactive classroom sessions led by our chief instructor.

Do you think this is worth it or are there any places that are similar and cheaper?

I would - since this will be your first time in a track some training from a pro would be very helpful and will make you "safer" on the day.

Na, get straight in and go on the trackday. Take your own car  and if you really feel that you need someone in with you to give you guidance then book a session with an instructor for 20 minutes at the start of the day. Otherwise it's not a race and you don't have to be the fastest thing to turn up on the day. Just enjoy yourself. And get track-day insurance. Both cars below insured through the same company (Moris) with the only difference being mine had £15 optional excess insurance.

Mine from Snetterton (£1700 or more (currently being dealt with) Down to £125 with optional excess insurance (would have been £875))

WookeeM from Rockingham (£4000 down to £925)

But it is rare that this happens, Wookiee got hit by an idiot and I Aquaplaned into a tyre-wall (basically).

Didn't even know they did that. The miss's works for Porsche might get her to organise one for me!

If you come to a briskoda only trackday, it tends to be pretty safe, and there are often instructors available to hire too :)

what about the castle coombe spring action day ? just brisky members and 2 x 15 min sessions, quite cheap for a first go :)

This was the one I was thinking of. Sounds like a good starter.

My first ever track session was at Castle Combe in circa 2007 for a Briskoda session.

Great fun, likeminded individuals, and a 'gentlemanly understanding' that mixed abilities are taking part and for the most part, no-one drives like a tool.

My advice is try Combe, breath slowly and take it gently. The temptation is to hoon it first time out, end up over cooking it and running out of talent, closely followed by running out of track/grass/gravel and ending up a YouTube sensation for all the wrong reasons.

Instruction can be good, although I've never invested in it myself.

Perhaps get some passenger laps in with some Briskoda folk beforehand?

Oh, and be prepared for the bug to bite!!

You will also get hooked very quickly and run out of money even quicker once you do.

He can tell you that you don't need instruction to drive on track. He was in with me grabbing on for dear life. Granted we ended up in a tyre wall together but up until that point it was fine.
