Lane Assist

Featured Replies

How weird does Lane Assist feel when you first encounter it !!

Works quite well though, where the line markings are good enough.

Lifted my hands off the wheel while I intentionally let it drift towards the centre of the road (no oncoming traffic before anyone moans), it steered the car back before it crossed the line and then tried to hold the correct line again in my lane.

If there's a white line on the left too, it'll stay in lane pretty well. Although obviously if no line on the left, like on a lot of rural roads, it can't do much to stop you veering off into the verge.

Doesn't like it when you straightline through bends though :D

On country roads, which are a bit narrower yet do have visible lines down both sides, it does try to keep you in the centre of the lane a bit more than I'd like.

But overall, I think I like it, just takes some getting used to.

How have others found it ?

I've had it switched on since I got the car, so a month.

It initially took a bit of getting used to. Little things like not liking you moving out to pass parked cars without indicating, or simply moving out to get a better view.

Fortunately it requires little effort to overcome and once you cross the line it says "to hell with you" and gives up! (unlike SWMBO)

Yesterday I switched it off for the first time and actually missed the slight pre-emptive steering input into bends.

It also amuses me that at the start of a dual carriageway it uses the offside markings to steer you into the offside lane. Well, as it's a 280 it probably thinks that's where it belongs!!!
