Gearbox. Cables And shifter im told.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had an August 2014 vRS with the same problem.  After engaging reverse, driving the car backwards, then engaging 1st, the car would frequently remain in reverse  - as if the push-down selector was not disengaging. This would occur more frequently if you performed a manoeuvre in a hurry – say if you were doing a 3 point turn on a busy road, but was certainly not limited to this.

First visit to dealer: adjust everything to ‘factory spec'.  No improvement.

Second visit to dealer: new gearbox.  Problem resolved 95%.

The fault was fairly obvious and once the service manager experienced the problem first hand, there was no question that it was clearly dangerous and needed fixing.  I guess this is why there was no hesitation in replacing the gearbox.

Unfortunately I eventually rejected the car as it suffered from electrical gremlins that could not be fixed after months of trying and weeks of the car being taken apart, bits replaced etc. etc.

I now have a July 2015 vRS and have the same gearbox problem, albeit not as bad.  The car has already been to the dealer but they could not replicate the problem and until they can, no fault exists!  I am fed up with going backwards and forwards to the dealer (ironic, considering the issue), and being made to feel like I am making up the problem.  And life is just too short for me to waste more time dealing with SUK again as being told 'it is a characteristic of the car’ makes me want to do bad things to them.

I think it has been said already, this gearbox issue is not new or unique to Skoda – I just wish that VAG would fix it once and for all.

Eventually I will raise the issue again with the dealer but for now I am fed up with fighting with them.  In the meantime I shall live in the hope that someone else finds a fix that Skoda recognise.  Until then, please don’t stand behind me.
