Tuning 1.6 FSI - is that possible?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am the happy owner of a new 1.6 FSI Octy.

Since I bought it (6-7 months now) I have been searching for tuning related products, in the form of CPU remapping, chip tuning etc.

I started getting disappointed, until recently that I found a number of options, for our 1.6 FSI.

The products have been out for VW Bora, VW Golg V, VW Passat and in some cases for Octy II!

For those who are interested, I post here two of these options:

AMD TUNING and MVT TUNING

Has anyone yet tried any of them? Do you think that it is worth trying?

Thanx,

AMD have a good reputation in VAG tuning but they are very expensive. Generally you will see small gains from a naturally aspirated engine with a remap because the mapper wont be able to turn the turbo up to achieve the good results you'll read about here.

I see AMD quote a 10bhp increase for a remap that will cost you £350.

Also AMD are just outside Oxford, England. Your car is in Greece.

I know its not the news you're looking for but I think you could find more enjoyment in a £350 holiday.

Superchips can get you a additional 6 bhp for £293.75 but i'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear either.

If money is not an issue (:D ), do you really think that 10bhp are not worth it?

Apparently, while the gains in terms of hp aren't spectacular, a remap can transform the way the car drives - improved throttle response, etc.

Whether there's any truth in this or not, I don't know...someone give me

If you have the ECU remapped will this affect the warranty in Greece bearing in mind that SkodaAuto's standard 2 year warranty does not cover any component which has been materially altered or modified without their written approval.

That is definitely an issue.

I think that most of these companies offer you an option of going back to the program as it was.

If not, I would not even think about it before the ending of the warranty period.

I had my 1.8 20v Passat remapped by AmD.

Standard it gave 125bhp and 136bhp after mapping. If truth be known it didn't feel a great deal different. It was mapped by Geoff the company founder.

NA engines give at most 10% increase and can improve driveability.

IMHO...it's not worth it. You can better gains from porting the head and having freer flow downpipe and cat. Will be more expensive though due to the amount of labour invovled.

Thats baaaaaad!:(

Did they say what they'd do to achieve that? I didn't think there was that much scope for tuning, simply by tweaking the existing map to take advantage of things like better quality fuel, etc.....
