EGR disconnect and limp mode

Featured Replies

New turbo and I removed the Slicon hose to the EGR vale to disable it.

Car ran fine for a month.

Two days ago, the dreaded limp mode kicked in. Checked the actuator on the turbo was ok and it is fine.

So then I reconnected the silicon hose to the EGR valve and it runs ok so far(15 miles).

A lot of smoke came out of the exhaust when I started it after reconnecting the silicon hose.

As my laptop is buggered I cannot get the fault code.

Any ideas what could cause this?

The EGR valve needs replacing as oily gunge comes out of the outlet port/hole.

£72 is the cheapest I have found.

So until I can get the laptop functioning I won't know what the fault is and what to do.

The temp gauge light comes on when the ambient temp is below 3' C

I think I read somewhere that you scrape off the accumulated muck from the sensor inside the water reservoir, am I right?

On the latter point, yes, certainly worth a try. On the former point, I can't help much I'm afraid.

You have just effectively allowed a valve to open that carries the exhaust gases and crud to recirculate back into the inlet side of things. If it hasn't been used for a while then more crud will be fed round the system creating smoke -should improve though. Bit like turning on a gas/electric fire that hasn't been used for a while.
