Bulb out warning light & sound

Featured Replies

 That's something new for me! :D Beeeeeeep! Piccie of a bulb on the dash in yellow - my offside philip's vision plus was out. Nice to be told instead of just finding out some time later. In went the spare out my bulb pack in the car. :)

As an aside is it possible for bulbs to wear out? In the reflection of a van in traffic I noticed my new spare bulb looked quite a bit brighter than my existing vision plus bulb. I might just stick in the BOGOF powerbulbs ones and see what happens.

Another  for extra warnings on vRS setup.

All bulbs wear out as the filiment wears thin with age. A tungsten lamps has internal temperatures exceeding 4000 degrees and this causes atoms to become detached from the element thus thining it eventually. At the same time the glass become discoloured. So yes lamps do become dimmer and wear out.Of course there are manufacturing tolerances too. That's why you should change lamps in pairs and manufactuers sell lamps largely in matched pairs.

I had this recently - sorted by cleaning the headlights

Btw, the bulb-out warning was also standard on the Elegance trim :P:rofl:

It's why it's generally a good plan to replace both bulbs at the same time if one blows. What I tend to do is to replace both, and then use the 'still working one' as a spare. If a bulb goes then I run with the spare until I can replace both, then chuck the oldest spare out I suppose - not thought that far ahead yet

Well, it was f**kin' cold this morning, and I started the engine and then the BEEEEP hit me - I only had time to change the one bulb, as it was easy to do - more space with offside one. :D

I'm waiting for someone to mention gearbox cables to me! I checked that cover was on damn securely before I shut the bonnet!

God I hope my xenons don't blow - god knows how much they cost!

I wouldn't worry, they won't. There's no filament, Xenons are gas discharge and last 6-7 times as long as a filament type bulb.

Whilst they do last a lot longer, they dont last forever! and they are flipping expensive too! plus some garages will refuse to change them as they hold a residual current or something even when they are switched off, so they dont want their mechanics getting fried!!
