Further to my post on 22/11 about paintwork - a new challenge

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I wrote on 22/11 about the calcium and lime deposits on my car, which I have successfully eliminated with white vinegar.

But, on my bonnet, from a much earlier time, I have hard, grey 'splats' of grey paint. It looks like primer. When I move my hand across the bonnet I can feel the smoothness interrupted by these unsightly grey things. I must have parked near someone blasting or spraying, or near a railway line. It's so annoying.

How can I get rid of them? Could I dissolve them?

Or is the best option to go to a professional? I think they may have to use a 'machine' to buff them off.

Right now it seems like a razor blade is the only option, which I am loathe to do, as one false move and I could scratch the black paintwork.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Do not use a razor blade!

If it is metal fallout (do they start to rust( then something like Tardis / iron-x etc will remove it.

Failing that for other contaminates then a good clay bar should remove them - Meguiar’s is good (other outlets may be cheaper.

As said...A Clay bar and plenty of QD or Soapy water (Dependent on the type of clay) should remove them

I would always follow this with polishing the paintwork as its likely that the claying process might inflict some marring and definitely removed your LSP
