Spa Francorchamps/Nordschleife three-dayer: 6th/7th/8th April 2016

Featured Replies

I'm heading over to Belgium next Spring to drive one of the great F1 circuits on a two-day trackday. It's not far from the 'Ring either, if that floats your boat.

It's currently £275 per day or £520 for both days. Two days at Spa is about the same price as one open-pitlane day on the Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch! But you have the associated costs of the Channel crossing, several nights in a hotel, steaks and wine/beer of course.

Fancy it? You get to drive up this steep hill repeatedly:

Are single seaters with open wheels allowed on the trackday?  Mankee

Morning Bernie. What have you bought now?! Are we talking single seater with open wheels? Or a single seater like a BAC Mono or the Toyota-based road-legal F1 car from down your neck of the woods? I suspect that open wheelers aren't allowed, usual trackday rather than test day rules.

No, not me.    My friend with the Westfield Ecoboost conversion got fed up and gone and bought an ex Juan Fangio Formula Ford Ecoboost that is ready to roll.  He was hoping the normal trackday rules won't apply in Belgium.

As for me I'm trying to get a few days of work to book into this w/end, fingers crossed all the places are not sold for a while.

You or I could ask Colin, but I doubt that a single seat racer would be allowed on the event. Is the Ecoboost not up and running then?

The track is massive, which means that the entry numbers can be pretty accommodating too. Don't know the exact numbers, but I'm guessing around Bedford sort of capacity of 80-90 cars per day. Let me know if you get booked up and need a B&B close to the circuit.

The westfield ecoboost project is now on the back burner while he prepares the Formula Ford for sprinting next year.

I'll let you know if I book up  for Spa.

Erm. This has just accidentally turned into a triple-trackday as there's a full open pitlane event just over the border on the Nordschleife immediately following the two days at Spa.

Cost for both Spa and Nordschleife? Is this a 'normal' track event? i.e. can normal cars go? Cheers

Spa is £275 per day or £520 for both days at the moment. The price goes up the more people book. The Nordschleife is £499. Both are normal track events, just like over here. There will be road cars and probably a few race cars. No open wheelers though.

599 pounds for a day at the Nordschleiffe? You do realize 1 tour costs you only 30 euro right? I do live in Belgium and have done both tracks, but I would prefer Spa. Nordschleiffe is really narrow and difficult which makes you completely stressed not to ruin your car.

The track car isn't road-legal so I can't do Touristenfahrten, unfortunately. I much prefer the lower risks of a closed private trackday at the 'Ring than coming round a corner to find a fallen biker or being hassled by heroes who have done too many laps on Playstation and not enough in real life. I'm really looking forward to Spa of course. A wonderful circuit.

That's indeed one of the weird experiences at the Ring. I'm not a race-car driver or whatever, so I know how to drive a car but I'm not extremely good at any track. Last time at Nordschleiffe we went in a 911, and got overtaken by a VW Polo (I imagine the guy in the Polo thought: "another one of those Playstation racers" :D). It's just such a demanding track which asks so much more concentration. Also did a track day at Zandvoort once, which is the exact opposite: wide road, good oversight, easy corners, ...

For "beginners" I think Nordschleiffe is not the best track to go on  a first trackday, but considering you have a non-road-legal trackcar, I imagine that doesn't count for you ;),

I'd like to do Zandvoort one day as it looks like great fun, but for us Brits, the costs of trailering a car over there plus hotel/beer/food adds up and it's worth doing more than one trackday in a single European trip. Hence doing three in three days to really try and give myself as well as the cars a good workout!

BTW, there is another track nearby (Mettet) and Zolder is also an fantastic track (but a bit in the other direction). I never realized it, but living in Belgium turns out to be great to get to tracks :D
