Failed power steering pump.

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a little bit of help as I am not very technical.

About a week ago I took my 2011 vrs fabia for a winter check, the next day I had a hole in the radiator £400 later I had a new radiator.

The 3 days after that my power steering g light comes on and the steering is very heavy.

After 2 days at skoda I am told that its the power steering pump that has failed and I will need to order a new one from skoda in Germany.

Has anyone else had a similar issue as I am starting to wonder if this diagnosis is correct.

Thanks upfront for any help.

Jon

is it a hard fault, ie doesn't clear if you restart the car?

normally a steering angle sensor, a lot cheaper and easier to fix

also at 4 years old, hows the battery as that can throw a power steering light as it an electric pump that draws a lot of current, and strange it has done it just as the cold weather starts to arrive :)

As mentioned above check the steering angle sensor and battery first. If it is the pump I wouldn't pay Skoda prices. VW electric power steering pumps are readily available from reconditioners such as AMK and Shaftec, although not cheap they will be much more reasonable than skoda.

Have you spoken yet with the Master Tech, Workshop Manager and in the presence of the Dealer Principal?

What are they say on the possibility of an issue while the car was in with them, the radiator then the steering pump?

They need to be sure on the diagnosis before the expense is incurred.
