Skoda back on the drive :) Flywheel warped?

Featured Replies

Had a look at the clutch and flywheel which was replaced yesterday.

The clutch was definately slipping but the clutch plate had plenty of friction material left. The flywheel face had three equally spaced patches which were visibly worn.

What would cause this? Could the flywheel have been warped?

The timing belt looked like it had plenty of life in it too, but it was overdue and there was no evidence of it being changed in the service history or the receipts.

Oil and filter change has been done, and I treated her to four Michellin ClimaContacts; far and away better than the no-name Chinese 'tyres' which would spin at the slightest hint of it being damp despite having plenty of tread depth.

So, my bank is a few quid lighter but I should now have a safe, reliable car for the winter.

Patchy wear is normally a symptom of wear in either the pressure plate springs or the DMF if it has one. You would feel vibration in a warped flywheel long before the wear occurs.
