Exhaust Inspection System Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

The above warning light has just come on - 2004 1.9PD 156k miles. The car still seems to drive OK apart from a slight hesitancy on low throttle openings but it's been like this for a few weeks now. It was only today that the warning appeared. Just before I noticed the light I'd hear a slight rattle from the NS bulkhead area which I put down to maybe a pebble being thrown up by the front NS wheel - coincidence?

The car was last serviced by a local Indy a month ago. The only fault codes he reported were related to 3 of the glow plugs but it's had that fault for ages without any problems.

Any theories anyone?

Thanks,

Dave

The EML (Engine Management Light) which is a picture of an engine is used to signal a multitude of faults.

You really need the fault code to know for sure.

I'd take it back to the indy who serviced it the other month, I'm sure they'll scan it for free for you.

Once you have the code/s check them out here...

Our Scout at work put the exhaust system light up recently. I expected it to go into limp home mode but it still drove as normal whilst I got it to garage. It was diagnosed with glow plug issues.

Update:-

Car taken in to C&R Enterprises VAG Specialists, Nottm this am.  Diagnosis:- Wiring fault on fuel temp sensor + 3 defective glowplugs. Should be fixed today IF the glowplugs play ball and come out without a problem!
