Bonding onto the dashboard...

Featured Replies

Ok, so I'm at the stage with my 3 gauge pod that I want to bond it onto the top of the dashboard. However, I will first need to bond on some metal brackets to the plastic pod, then I plan to screw these brackets into the dash and then seal over the top.

My question is...  what bonding agent would people use?

There's obvious Tiger Seal (which I have a new one sat ready and waiting if needs be), but I'm not sure if it will stick enough. I plan on keying the surfaces with a blade slightly so that it has something to stick to.

My big worry is that I want a permanent solution. The dash complete with pod is going off to be flocked at the end of the week, so it would be awful if it came off after it was done. I would say that a slightly flexible solution is required due to temperature changes and the vibration of the car/dash.

What do people recommend please?

Tiger seal if you want it to allow slight flex ;)

Clamp the brackets as it goes off,or weight them down.

Will stick it easily,as long as you clean off all your 'Flash Dash' before hand! :D

My pod base is just screwed through the dash.  No bonding.  Been solid for several years :D

+1 for tiger seal, if it is designed for holding body panels on, it should work fine for bonding the gauge to the dash. Maybe give it a bit of a key first with some sand paper if you really want to be sure.
