First time skoda owner

Featured Replies

Hello all, This year I bought the new skoda octavia 1.6 elegance. Great value for money and a very nice drive. Just one problem After a few weeks of driving it was brought to my attention from a back seat passenger there was a wind noise coming from the small back window (drivers side). Brought the car to skoda service engineer under the warranty, he test drove the car and confirmed the window seal was not 100%. I was informed that Skoda had a procedure for correcting this fault which was to smear some type of black silicon around the small window at the elbow joint. To me this is a quick fix method and a cheap way out for skoda. Taking the matter further. Has anyone else had similar experience's or a more positive outcome dealing with this fault ? Many thanks

Welcome to briskoda.

Cant comment on the problem myself but good luck gettin it sorted

I've had this issue and it does seem to sort out the noise. It loosens up the rubber on the door and seals the gap. Of course, the other alternative is to move the door closer to the frame - Its a small adjustment done at the hinges.

Welcome to Briskoda from another Irishman btw!

What part of the country are you from?

Im a fellow dubliner, thanks for the advice but sorry to say this was already tried with no success. However I gave skoda the benifit of the doubt and proceded with the repair, seems to have solved the air leak but looks like a real patch up job. Some people would probably be satisfied but im not one of them. Still taking it further with skoda and failing a satisfactory response I will pursue the matter further with the small claims court under Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980.:

Thanks again

Hi and welcome. :wavey:

hi. and welcome 2 the site.

Hi :wavey:

It is quite a common fault from what I remember, quite a few people have complained of this on the early Mk2. I gather it was to do with the rubbers on the rear quarter lights.

Edit: From reading this it looks like there was a recall fo the rear quarter light rubbers - may be worth checking further - There used to be a website that listed all recalls for vehicles but I can't remember where it was :( Have a search...,.

Im waiting on a reply from MDL ltd to a lenghty email . which I think will be Monday the 5th. I beleve their away on some xmas due and wont be back till then. Dealers up a JFK industrial est. did the repair but I dont hold them responsible for the level of service, they just followed the procedure set out by the factory. Ill wait and see what MDL have to offer, and thanks for your offer to help out, I may take you up on it.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum. I can understand why you're not happy with the repair, it sounds like it will look quite messy and I know I wouldn't like it.

Good luck in getting something worthwhile from Colin.

I see Sean in JFK is back up to his old tricks. I recommend going to their other branch. Speak to Ken (Service Manager) - He's as good as they come! Btw Ken is a member on here too.

Send me a PM to let me know how you get on.

BTW - Fancy coming karting? :D

Hi there,

I'm also from Dublin  . Sorry to hear your having troubles, as BPM said it would be well worth while taking a spin over to Ken, he knows his stuff and he's very easy to deal with :)

Btw I've sent you a PM
