Phone Connection Options Advice

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am looking to move from a S2 to an S3 and want some advice on phone set ups.

In my S2 things were easy, you just connected my S5 mini to the car via rSap and you pretty much had a rock solid phone signal wherever you went. When I connected my iPhone it connected via Bluetooth but you were lucky if you had a usable signal.

I know the new Superb I am looking at has CarPlay and Mirrorlink but as far as I am aware this doesn't do anything to enhance the phone signal?

Also does the Superb still come with the rSap 'Premium' option or has this now been removed?

The other option I have seen is the Phonebox feature has any body selected this and have they seen an improvement in reception?

I think the rSap feature is brilliant and is the reason I have an Andriod phone as my work phone it would be a real shame if that option is lost.

Any info would be appreciated.

rSAP is available for those phones that support it.

I just have mine connected to my iPhone via Bluetooth and it works fine. Heated screen is not affecting signal at all and it shows high to full signal strength most if the time on the Columbus display. I didn't bother with phone box as I don't have inductive charging on the phone and the external aerial link seems surplus.

Mine has the phone box. Not really noticed much difference to be honest but I think the only way you'd know would be to check the signal in and out of the box, which is a bit impractical in the outside lane of the m5 :-)

I lose signal on my commute in two places, this has not improved any with the phone box, if it’s using the external aerial then the signal must be improved slightly...no? well it isn’t enough to cover these dead spots (both about ½ mile areas)

I use CarPlay and it's fantastic. That being said, I never had any issues on Bluetooth in our Octavia so perhaps you had a faulty phone/receiver in your car?

Is the wireless CarPlay option introduced in IOS9 working yet with the newest Infotainment version?

Not on mine.

CarPlay is ok but the voice rec button doesn't work. You have to rely on siri by using the touch screen.

Just seen the wireless CarPlay option in iOS. Will try it later.

Wireless CarPlay not working on my SE business. Siri now is via a long press on voice rec button on steering wheel though. Short press works the wider infotainment voice control.

Wireless CarPlay will require a firmware or software update on the Columbus itself. It's currently not supported on any shipping cars at the moment.

The voice recognition button does work. Just hold it down for 1-2 seconds and it will trigger Siri. If it doesn't then you need to get that looked at by the dealer.
