Main beam failure

Featured Replies

Hi

Newbie from Chester - we have a 120,000 mile diesel estate, one of the best cars we have ever had, but the electrics are a bit of a nightmare. Latest snag, the main beam goes out after a few seconds.

Can anyone offer advice please?

Do you have any bulb errors at all?

Does it bring up a build error once the main beam goes out + is it both sides?

Ok this is an Octy 2, but it might still work. Try spraying some electrical contact cleaner into the dip switch, and then give is some aerobics for a couple of minutes.

Hi people, thanks for your quick response

Yes I do have a light warning up but I also need to change the offside side light.

I shall fix that first then check for an error light, and yes, both main beams drop together.

I shall also do the WD40 thing on the switch

When I've done all that, will get back

I will also do an OBD check

Didn't post the above, but have now changed the side light bulb, which does not work either. Had enough for tonight, will pick up a couple more bulbs tomorrow

Didn't have time to get the bulbs, we are away for long weekend now. Good thing we've got a Yeti!

Did find time to plug in the reader: no codes

Get back to it Monday

no, use switch contact cleaner

I shall also do the WD40 thing on the switch

Thanks Mike. Fortunately my electrician son in law also put me right

Interesting that under arm does it too!

When I finally get to Halfords I shall pick up some contact cleaner (I don't use a spray deodorant, Madame does but she's away for a few days)

Sit rep: changed the offside side light bulb and the fault light has now gone out.

Cleaned the switch mechanism with contact cleaner.

Still no codes showing on the reader.

Headlights still drop to dip from main after a few seconds

Ok, Mike, thank you.

Can't say I'm too pleased about taking the airbag out, not done that before

Oh, another problem! I don't know how to do the re-coding afterwards
