Superb Suspension - Lowering Options?!?!?!!? Help Please!?!!?!?!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I am new to the forum but I have been on UK-MKIV's.net for many years now.

I would like to ask you fellow Superb drivers if you can shed any light on some suspension for the Superb.

Currently the Superb looks like a tractor IMO and I would like to lower it as much as possible and at the same time improve the handling. I have been looking at a KW Variant 1 Coliover kit which lowers the car around 35 - 65mm however when looking into this further I believe that the lowest you can get the car according to their website, installation instructions is 40mm!!

I personally don't think that 40mm will look like I have lowered it, I have seen many B5 / B6 Passats on the floor and that is the look that I would like to achieve, I appreciate that this may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's the look I am trying to achieve. Ideally if I were to buy the KW Variant 1 kit then I would like it to be as low as 60mm if possible.

Are their any other Superb drivers on this site that have fitted an aftermarket suspension kit and may be able to give me some advice? Or is their anyone on the forum that has any knowledge of the lowering capability of this Superb?

Many thanks in advance,

KW is the choice it seems, if you want to have lots of flexibility in set up. I have Eibach's on mine, which has lowered it by 30mm, and it does look good in my eyes. However it seems you want to go further than just look a little sporty, almost slammed, so the Eibach wouldn't be your choice. I dont think there are too many other options, and even with 30mm I have to be careful with speed humps so good luck! :)

Thanks for the response mate.

Is there any possibility that you could email me ([email protected]) some pics of your Superb then? Just to get an idea of the ride height?

My Superb rides very high, higher than the B5.5 Passat and I just want it to look a lot lower.

As for speed humps, my previous car, was lowered 35mm with a Oettinger Bodykit and I think that if you are careful then you can get over most things, LOL!!

Anyone else got any ideas?

Yeah let's see a pic ASTU...

:D

I'll have to ask Lummox to see if he can post it here for me, as I dont know how. The only pic I have isnt very good, but you should get a reasonable idea. I'll take more pics of my car soon.

Very few options I'm afraid :(

The KWs will do 65mm. The 40mm you quote is purely for a spring kit, much like the Eibachs. If they say it will do 65, I believe them. 65 is a hell of a lot though!

Thanks very much for your email mate and I hope you don't mind but I have posted up the pic of your motor, which I have to say looks great!!!

What do people think?

If you can take a side shot then that would be great and I will post up that pic aswell? The ride height doesn't look too bad but I am just worried that it may not be enough if the KW's don't go down more than 40mm.

I managed to download the installation instructions and found that the adjustment range is 40mm on the Superb.

Looks like i am just goign to have to take the chance but I think a side shot of 'astu's' motor may make my mind up.

I know that 65mm is low but if I have the luxury of being that low then I will take it!!

The car looks great from the side. I'll try to take a pic soon. :)

Maybe 'luxury' isn't the right word, if you've taken 65mm of travel out of your suspension, then its not going to feel very luxurious.

But let us know how you get on, I think the Superb does look much too tall as standard

I know what you mean about luxury of the ride but then it's not what I am really interested in to be honest.

The 'armchairs' in the Superb are that comfy that they absorb most of the bumps!!

Suspension is on order so let's see what happens when it gets fitted hopefully before Xmas.

I completely agree with the standard ride height of the Superb, it's on stilts!!
