Next Gen games console

Featured Replies

Anyone here hoping to get the new Xbox 360? I am not. Of the current generation of consoles I always thought that (after expereince of all 3) that the Nintendo Gamecube was the best by some margin. Just a shame that it ended up in 3rd place in terms of popularity with all the effects that had on title choice (although you can get all the main titles for it plus the excellent Nintendo only games).

I think I will wait and see if the new Nintendo machine ever comes out. I really like the look of the new concept in controller that Nintendo have publicised. The XBox 360 and PS3 just seem like slightly enhanced more of the same.

Nintendo might shift a few more consoles if they stopped featuring a certain fat mustachioid italian plumber of questionable sexuality in half their releases!

Personally I am awaiting the release of the PS3 with somewhat baited breath!

Nintendo is a spent force. Niche market games.

PS3 is pie in the sky with a 2007 uk launch its too far off to wait for.

XB360 is here. It is not a console per se more of hybrid as it offers many other functions beyond that of a console. Bet you cant guess which one I get on Fri.

Yes but it is a games console I want, not a hybrid. Nintendo is hardly a spent force. have you ever played with a PS2 then tried a GameCube. The Cube is better looking, smaller and is much quicker loading games and much quicker at saving game data etc. I own the GameCube but I previously had a PS1 and my brother has both a PS2 which he has had for ages and a Gamecube which he bought second hand a few months ago. He agree that the Nintendo is streets ahead.

I think Nintendo made a pricing mistake early on that killed the Gamecubes chances. It was a pure games console, not a DVD player, so should have been priced significantly cheaper than the PS2 or XBox from day one. Never owned an Xbox but there is one in the rest area in work. The thing is bloody huge and the controller is very unconfortable compared with either the Nintendo or Sony ones. I agree that the 360 being out first is a big advantage for it, but some of the reports from the USA suggest it might have been prematurely released with bugs still in (just like Microsoft PC software). Rather wait a year and get a better machine that works.

had gamecube, still have ps2 and xbox.

Nintendo is too "kiddy" game orientated. They have always overpriced stuff restricted developers.

Yet again they will launch a product that doesnt do what the rest can and wonder why few are interested. Personally I want a console that can handle HDTV with a large devolper base, does online gaming, does talk to my other kit with wi-fi etc.

The new controller sounds interesting.. but thats it.

The thing is that I doubt that the XBox 360 will be as good as a media centre PC for general entertainment, and they suck compared with having decent dedicated DVD players, recorders etc. As for HDTV, I am sure that Nintendo will have this function. Online gaming I must admit has never over interested me, but again I have not read that Nintendo will not have this function.

It will be a pitty about the no doubt smaller number of games developers, but lets face it that had more to do with smaller console sales than anything else with the GameCube. In the end regardless of the hardware pros and cons I have consistantly found that Nintendo's own stable of games are more playable and engaging than the movie tie in stuff that abound for the other consoles. My favorite game was released with the CameCube - Luigi's Mansion, a real classic.

but this is a car forum and nintendo lack a decent driving sim......

Mario Kart  . A fair point.

Apparently XBox 360 is having problems....keeps on crashing...also T3 have done a review in this months mags....not the great step forward they were hoping for.

Nintendo will be bringing out a new console...controller has motion detectors in it so you can use it as a sword/gun etc.

Which you can use for playing Mario kart, Mario Tennis, Mario Land, Mario Baseball (why?) Mario Golf, Paper Mario, Mario Party, Mario gets rabies and goes completely off his bonce.......and all the other crap for 8 year olds that Nintendo loves to churn out.

I'm probably going to get a Xbox360 after xmas (once the initial high price has fallen a little), for its media centre abilities, and my G/F will get a PS3 once they've been out for 6months or so. I'd never buy a console on the first day, look at home many 'build incarnations' the PS2 has gone through - it will take a while to work out and refine all the manufacturing bugs.

The Nintendo GameCube has not gone through any 'incarnations' other than having silver and balck cases as alternatives to the original purple.

No console is ever wondrously good for the first 6 months... The games are poor... look at the launch PS2/PS1/XB titles compared with what followed 12 mths in. As for the overheating... well I will test it for you but suspect its rumours.

Save your money, upgrade all your pc's as the games will appear on them. You can use a keyboard and mouse for your FPS and strategy games, which is a far more suited control method. Driving games, well buy a wheel. Its also a damn good DVD player, MP3 player, and whatever player you want it to be. It also browses the internet, and is freely customisable.

To be honest these "consoles" are getting so close to PC's now, you might as well upgrade what yo already have :)

apart from console games dont crash... dont require new drivers / vga card every 6 weeks . but hey i have both so why am i worried....
